2009-2015 Transmission

I am looking to buy a used Nissan Maxima between the years of 2009-2015. I was recently told buy a car dealership that there have been a lot of problems with the transmissions in these cars. Any input would help

With 450,000 miles on my CVT I would say it is very reliable BUT and this is a BIG BUT, I bought my 09 new and have done my service myself and religiously. I know when I service the fluid and the filter. I have never "abused" the transmission or motor. I drive with a light touch except where necessary and I try to keep those exceptions to a minimum.

With a used vehicle, you really don't know how it was treated and maintained. For example if the previous owner(s) had a binary right foot on the acceleration pedal, I would be shocked if there aren't problems with the CVT, motor mounts and engine. But if well maintained (and you really don't know this part) and driven what I would call in a "baby'd fashion" then sure go ahead.

But if you are handy and want to take the risk, negotiate with the dealer and use his own words to get a $3500 deduction on his price point (the cost to replace a CVT although it may be more or less in your area.)

Best of luck

Lt

Well it IS YOUR MONEY! We can't see it. We can't examine it or do any checks at all. So I can't in good conscience recommend go or no go. But you should get it checked over by a mechanic you trust. That way, you have someone to throw rocks at locally if they give you bogus data.
