Has anyone installed new fuel injectors
snakeater performance said these would be the ones
hut that I’d also need to have the car tuned. The tune will tell your ECU to make use of the extra fuel flow.
as well as change fuel pump and filter (they sell them)
First, let me offer congratulations on a nice looking ride. You did well so far. Also, I should preface what I am about to say with a reminder that this is YOUR Maxima. You have the ultimate say so in what to do and not to do. But let me offer my 2 cents.
I just had a conversation about the English language earlier today with my chief engineer. Originally from Colombia, she speaks 4 languages well and another 3 well enough. We were discussing the term "enhanced" to speak to some calls per second metrics on one of our systems. This claim made by another engineer made it seem that a significant performance increase was obtained, yet he used the word "enhanced." I took them both aside and commended the male engineer on his mastery of English. Processing one more call per day is an enhancement, just not a great one. My chief engineer just shook her head laughing about the vagaries of the English language and asked if I could "enhance" the other engineer's pay by 1 cent a year!!!!
My point is, be aware of claims that aren't guaranteed in writing! If you had one sticky fuel injector, then yes, you would see performance "enhanced." But at what cost? What are you attempting to do? Remember, if you "tune" the engine to make more horses (lets say you slapped a super charger on your engine, you can certainly make more horsepower, but what good is it if the rest of your drive train is in pieces in the driveway?
Here is my list of performance "enhancers" that actually work and is good for your car (in no particular order.)
#1 Keep tire pressure under control. Low or imbalanced pressures can seriously impact performance.
#2 Keep your air filter clean. Check it and change it regularly!
#3 Keep the throttle body clean. Dirt and carbon detract from performance.
#4. Keep a good eye on your electrical system. Clean and tighten terminals. Look for "green crusties" (read coper wiring that has oxidized so bad as to lose its electrical conductivity. Check your charging system voltages. Nothing saps performance out of these 7th gens as bad electrical power.
$5 Check your suspension. Worn parts are not only dangerous but can make turns more exciting than they should be (and not in a fun way.)
#6. Use Tier-1 gas. You want something to suck the life out of your engine, poor gas will do it. You don't have to run premium (the 09 model was the only one that said "Premium Gas Required." All others were changed to "recommended.")
#7 Change your cvt fluid and external filter regularly. It not only affects performance, but longevity as well.
#8 Probably the most expensive item on the list...get great tires. If you want sticky tires for road courses filled with twist and turns, get them. Nothing will detract more from handling (and thus performance) in my book and tires not matched to task.
#9 Keep your oil changed regularly.
#10 Get a scanner and keep an eye on your fuel trims. These are a good indicator of how well your engine is performing. Clogged Cats will show up here and thus, replacing them after they are clogged, will also enhance performance.
In other words, take care of the maintenance items and your car's performance will stay near showroom fresh. And beware of snake oil claims. If you really need new injectors because you have bad ones, get them replaced. I would use OEM but that is me.
These Maximas are good looking and can get you in and out of trouble with their handling and speed. Just note that when you start mucking about with the engine systems with a "tune" or a supercharger or whatever, you are most assuredly paying $$ to lower the lifespan of your ride. So, decide on what aspect of performance enhancement is most important and go for it. It IS your car. But I can tell you I follow these aforementioned items and currently have over 473,000 miles on my 09 with original engine and CVT. I can get tickets all day long with her as she is still quite agile and powerful...but I really don't like paying those tickets!
Do let us know what you end up with. Most of the folks that "tuned" their 7th gens aren't around the forums much anymore, but I wish you the best.
nothing wrong with my current injectors just read that they could be upgraded and glad I didn’t do anything yet I know when I tuned my VW passat prior I had issues
so far I added springs/ k & n cold air intake
new powerbrakes and rotars
Rims and tires with 25mm spacers
sound system upgrades in trunk / full Dynamat of trunk and rear panels / 2 amps/ js alternator w big wiring kit
Blacked out chrome with vinyl and had lights tinted with light smoke film
full tint of windows
Added rear diffuser , side skirts rear trunk spoiler front bumper lip extension and rear window lip (all painted and installed at a body shop)
a Borla exhaust is in route and should be installed in a week
honeslty the intake from k & n made a huge difference in performance IMO
also bought and installed NGK iridium laser spark plugs
I haven’t touched the transmission fluid I’m thinking of having Nissan drain it and refill ?

Hey Cpitzi22, I myself are new to owning a used 2012 Maxima and I plan on doing some basic modifications over time Ill try to keep up with you when I finally make any changes but Im alright for now for a bit I'm just getting to know the car I have done some work on it so far the list goes.
Replaced 2x front struts,
2x rear shocks,
all 4 corners Swaybar links,
new inner and outer tie rods on the front, the bushings looked shop and the inner ball joint on the rods seemed loose,
new front right lower control arm,
new rotors in front and ceramic premium pads all around,
a splash guard in the wheel well was replaced, so i got those little push clips and went over the whole car replacing any band or missing clip a new fluid cap as well,
new full synthetic oil and filter
front center hydraulic motor mount and lastly,
a new full length right cv axle w/boots.
My Maxima is white, I see you got someone's got the lip kit all around on their car! I'm definitely getting that myself. Your ride looks pretty sweet dude respect! Other then doing the suspensions and its components/tranny fluid and filter, I have 3 performance locked in my mind i'll eventually get to, keep in touch and tell me how anything is going if you have done any more recent changes.
