2013 Maxima Belt tensioner noise

My Maxima is a 2013 I've had for about a year it has almost 150.000 miles on it and it runs great I keep it maintained and I like the car it is one of the best I've owned but there is a noise coming from the front passenger side tire it's like tapping or clicking noise is the best I can explain it I'm sure it's the belt tensioner has anyone else had this issue please let me know I'm kind of worried thank you

A bad belt tensioner usually squeaks. A failing timing chain tensioner will make clicking noises due to the timing chain becoming loose and rattling against the timing chain cover.

You need to diagnose where exactly the noise is coming from - the belt tensioner or something inside the engine (timing chain). Both are in the passenger side tire area unfortunately.

My 2003 I35 had a timing chain rattle problem at 169,000 miles.

I would replace the belt and tensioner with a Nissan OEM part, which can be purchased on line from a few different Nissan dealers.

That way you can eliminate the belt and tensioner as noisemakers and move on from there.

I'd suggest you have a trusted shop look at it before you just change out the tensioner and serpentine belt. I had this problem on my car, and I replaced 2 belts, the tensioner, and two of the pulleys. When the car started eating belts 3 months later, I took it to my mechanic, and he found that the #7 pulley was out of alignment and it needed to be replaced as well.
