P0500 & P1778 Code on 2014 Maxima S

I bought a ‘14 maxima at 140k and just hit 180k, original engine & transmission. Did a CVT flush at around 150k-ish and just got P0500 and P1778 codes simultaneously. Also noticed Ds (Sports Mode) doesn’t engage at all. During the 40k miles of driving mainly highway I don’t drive aggressively that often and I take somewhat swift care of the car itself. I was told the entire CVT would have to be replaced but after more research, I plan to change CVT fluid & step motor. Can anyone give insight on if they think this will work/if anyone had success on this? I still owe a bit on the car & would hate to be put into a financial hole with replacing the CVT.
