shift to park warning

I was changing the alternator and battery on my neighbors 2012 Maxima and after I got it all done and returned from test driving it the shift to park warning won't go away.

the gear indicator on the dash is on P and the car starts up fine as if it's in P but the alarm wont go away. I even tried messing with the shift linkage and no luck...
