I really was like "meh" about it, but after seeing those up-close high resolution pictures of the SR model in gunmetal? Wow. Oh yeah, which brings me to my next point: gun metallic > silver and every other color for that matter, IMO. If you want to give your car that mean, daunting look then there's no other color.

I will say the wheels suck. 18's, 19's. All of them. So it's aftermarket on those bad boys, but other than that? What a beautiful machine.
I am still torn between gunmetal or silver! I know the interior will be black! Just can't make decision on exterior, keep going back and forth, lol.

Hard to decide. Surely the best move is to see both side by side, and you will make your decision then.

As someone who's owned both gun metallic and now silver for me it was an easy choice. Gun metallic looks awesome and matches all the sport package stuff on 7th gen, but the silver just stands out way more. I had both side by side when making the choice..

Preference for a manual transmission doesn't mean that's a hard requirement for a Sport Sedan. That's true, and I agree... my personal preferences notwithstanding. But in the context of who's being delusional, are you pretending the Maxima is a sport sedan?

However, I like the little trunk spoiler. And I like the rear diffuser section.

And where's the sharkfin? Are manufacturers not doing the sharkfin anymore?

That's why I'm torn. I will be getting the SR and tinting immediately to help in this Texas heat, lol. The gunmetal will look super aggressive with the sport package but silver will be super sleek.

Check the badging on the rear = SL, and the dealer plate = Nissan owned.

I agree everything looks good except the wheels. What a horrible job Nissan. Who does black and silver two tone wheels anymore? At least that's easily changed.

There is a certain satisfaction in having a high power engine driving rear wheels.

Pretty much everyone. Dark wheels with machined face are "in" right now.

Funny all the references the 8th gen gets to the Mazda6 (which I don't see at all) but this photo is definitely Mazda6 inspired, with maybe some Tesla Model S thrown in.

From the 7th to the 8th in transition I expected to see more of this in design and looks but to each his own its gonna look different eye turning on the road vs in the pictures from what i'm thinking.

How about these rims? I think these rims look good on the blue body. This is a picture of the 2016 Renault Laguna. I don't think blue on red would sell in the U.S.. Notice how the roof and trunk lid follow the same shape as the Maxima. I think this is a concept drawing though.

CS_AR Whoa!!! Now thats what i'm talking about this looks like it woulda been good as a 5th gen remake into the 8th gen. You know how the current Camry looks more like the one from 2002-2006 same thing. If they had said were going to make the 8th gen look like the Maxima as it did it 2002 but newer and fresher all of us would be celebrating right now!

5-spokes split 3 ways with a narrow center spoke, yuck. To me, they look only slightly more fancy than the 17" base-model G-Sedan wheels, which are universally hated on the G-forum, BTW. Too busy and way too difficult to clean & wax. Honestly, I've not been impressed much with Nissan OEM rims. Once in a while, like the 370Z track wheels, or the G37 Sport Coupe rims, but overall not so much.

Nice looking car, though. That image has more appeal than the 8th Gen Max.

NYC Car Show

Was at the car show this last Friday specifically to see the new Max. It is outstanding. it is lot better in person. The one thing that was very noticeable
was that some of the models on the floor did not have sunroofs. Was able to sit in the cars and wow, what a difference from the 2014 models. One minor negative is that the console is very wide. If it was and 1-2 inches less would be perfect. All these things are minor compared to the fact this is a great looking car with an outstanding interior. Here are some pictures:

What about the 7th gen 19" wheels? I'm still quite impressed by how good they look.

And I think all the 7th gen 19"s looked good, starting from 2009 but especially the redesigned wheels from 2012-2014 and especially in gun metallic. I think it has to do with the current design trends as always, just look at other manufacturers wheels.

Awesome pics! I'm jealous you got to sit in one, lol. Glad to hear the interior is a step up from previous, as it was a letdown interior and exterior wise last generation. Nissan nailed it with this beast. It took 2 generations of blah, but the max is finally back.

Wheels do seem to be one of those "follow the herd" design items.
I think it may be like automotive interiors, there are a few companies that manufacture interiors for new cars that we see across multiple car lines.

It seems car manufacturers have been outsourcing wheel production to companies like the one in the following link for a long time. I wonder why the Ford F-150 seems to get the lions (no pun intended) share of new innovations?

http://www.maxionwheels.com/en/about-us/history.aspx

It looks like most of the auto industry is rolling on Maxon wheels.

^ Very true.

At least Nissan uses Enkei and Rays for some of their higher end wheels. Which, in such a market is really all you can ask for...

2016 Maxima Pricing, Options and Accessories

If anyone is interested you can find exact pricing, options and accessories
at the following URL: http://nissannews.com/en-US/nissan/u...xima-press-kit . after page comes up select pricing.

So I just compaired the sticker of my 2012 Maxima SV , with Premium and
Premium Tech Pack, Splash guards , floor and Trunk mats , Rear spoiler
Destination charge with the same options for the 2016 Maxima Platinum with Pearl White (additonal charge of $395) and the difference is $85 more for 2016
Maxima. That is amazing since you get much more in the way of new Tech Goodies two displays, new driver safety warnings etc.

Wow, that is very impressive that they kept the price pretty much the same, while improving the exterior, interior, making it lighter, improving CVT, and adding all the tech. Shaping up to be the best Max since the 5th gen.

Nope. The Maxima is an affordable sporty family sedan that offers a lot of panache for the money. Helps that, having been behind the wheel of many vehicles and having fought with many dealers since the 1940s, the Maxima has proven to be the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned, and my Nissan dealer is BY FAR the best car dealer I have had in over 65 years of driving.

Having owned several vehicles with manual trannies, and having enjoyed driving them, I also keep my mind open to the reality that CVTs are now getting better fuel efficiency than manuals, and manuals are not nearly as much fun in gridlocked traffic, which is becoming more widespread every year. I drove a 5speed manual in Atlanta traffic for six years. And paid the price with problems with the knee on my left (clutch) leg and the elbow on my right (shift) arm. Over 800 shifts on average each way to and from work, and speeds usually around 15 to 20 MPH (or worse). I did not enjoy the manual in those circumstances.

But if I lived in western Texas or eastern Montana or anywhere that traffic was not really bad, I could love a manual tranny again, even if the car was not a sports sedan. Especially if that manual shifted as smoothly as the one in the new four door Mini-Cooper 'S'.

That's pretty much how I've always felt about Nissan's flagship sedan. Not sure I'd use the word panache.

What's up everyone. Old member here from about 11 years ago. When I saw this car I had to come log in here to see what people were saying about it..

I personally am not much impressed with this design. I'm not sure why but it doesn't do anything for me. I owned a few 01 and 02 Maximas and absolutely loved those cars. Anyways hope everyone is doing well. God bless.

I'm curious if they implemented the double clutch shifting to the flappy padels, now that might make it worth while.

Double clutch shifting?

It's a CVT transmission, there is zero actual shifting

He's probably referring to the fake shifting.

While I am starting to really dig that color and think its pretty awesome, lol, I'm still leaning towards silver or gunmetal.

Yea, I'm thinking dark tint, and a simple 5-spoke, machine-finish wheel with a small drop, and that would be PERFECT for me. Silver and Gunmetal are great colors! Can't go wrong with either.

The first thing going on is tint. Living here in the south it is a necessity, epecially since I will get the black interior!
