The photo above, which at first blush appears to be a pair of taillights and exhaust tips floating in a dark, empty space, confirms what we’ve seen coming for a long time: The age of the factory murdered-out special is upon us. Nissan’s been in on the game for some time, having already debuted the black-painted-trim Juke Midnight Edition, but now it is revealing a new Midnight model based on the 2016 Maxima sedan, the Maxima SR Midnight.
Much like Chevrolet’s Black-Out package for the Silverado and the Midnight Edition Impala, Jeep’s Altitude kit for the Grand Cherokee, and the countless other black-on-black-on-black special-edition models out there, the SR Midnight sports blacked-out everything. The wheels, diffuser, spoiler, interior, splash guards, and, of course, the paint are all black. The charcoal-colored cabin has faux-suede seat inserts, along with all the gear that comes with the Maxima SR trim level, including aluminum pedals, paddle shifters, an 11-speaker Bose audio system, and a dual-pane sunroof.
Only just making its debut at the Nissan-sponsored BET Experience in L.A., the Maxima SR Midnight’s price is still lurking in the shadows. The regular Maxima SR starts at $38,495, so figure a bit more for the Midnight. You may, however, want to budget extra for car washes—keeping the thing clean for more than 30 seconds at a time will take a herculean effort.

On another thread here. Two common responses:

1 - Very striking car, especially with the black diffuser with the chrome bar.

2 - A devil to keep really clean, and will show even the hint of a blemish or scratch.

Was going to delete if I found the other thread. Must not be in the 8th gen section.

I am very curious about the dual-pane sunroof that is supposed to be a part of this SR's package.

There is no moon roof. For the most part its just an SR with the black wheel upgrade.

My guess is that whoever wrote that article screwed up.

I don't know about anyone else but if the SR had at least a sunroof my decision would be a lot easier. i can't deal with not having a sunroof after having one for 8 years.

My car has a sunroof and I've used it maybe 2-3 times in the year I've had it. And I live in a warm state. Not having one wouldn't bother me.

I have had one on my Altima for 6 years now and have used it a handful of times. I am getting the SR model and the sunroof will not be missed by me. The sport suspension was more important to me.

The midnight edition does look very sexy in black, but I know I would spend half my time trying to keep it clean!

Yes I am obsessive about my cars cleanliness, lol, so I will be sticking to either silver or gunmetal when I pick up my Maxima.

it is safe to conclude that the only thing added to this car is the name "midnight edition".

Do yourself a solid and go gunmetal. Trust me on this. You'll thank yourself later.

Lol, thanks for the advice. I am leaning heavily towards gunmetal, but silver is still in the back of my mind.

That 3rd gen was probably the one that moved the Maxima onto the wider radar of the general public. Very conservative. Very clean look. The simple design that Detroit never seemed to go for. And the primary color most folks will always associate with that 3rd gen was the pearl white, which looked richer than fresh dairy cream. Definitely one of my all-time favorites.

Indeed Indeed it was very rich Light, it was an extra cost option... I mean extra cost for back then. That Pearl White is what you call a true Pearl White, closest Nissan has gotten to that more recently was paint code QX1 (Glacier Pearl/Pikes Peak White). It still was not as good as the 3rd gens, I would agree that was one of my all time favorites as well!
