Blind Spot Warning feature?

When I first received my car I recall this feature working then between my wife and I we noticed that we haven't seen it working when cars approached from the side rear. This went on for awhile before I decided to read into it in the manual.
To my surprise I found that with all of my settings changes I apparently turned this feature off. What I don't understand is why would an important safety feature have the option to be turned off. What good reason could there be?

Some people find the little flashing yellow lights distracting, especially at night. Luckily Nissan's system is pretty low key. Audis have this little strip of flashing lights that can practically blind you at night if you accidentally set it too high.

Also, in many situations such as commuting in and around metro areas such as Atlanta (where some freeways have as many as eight lanes in each direction), there will ALWAYS be a car in your blind spot on both sides. Having that light always flashing on both sides is not pleasant, especially at night.

But for those who live and drive in CIVILIZED areas (i.e. - not full-time gridlock in all lanes), the blind spot warning should probably not be turned off.

Drive thru and car washes

Pulling through a drive through window waiting on a long long and set it off constantly. Also if your in a car wash that you sit in will constantly cause the warning to go off. I will temporarily disable it.

I just went through this while going thru the car wash, and noticed my warning sounds going off constantly, ended up turning it off while in the bay.

It's gonna happen sooner or later! I didn't see anything in the owner's manual about dry clean only so...

Only if it is a brushless carwash.

Right. I use the touchless most of the time, but twice a year (when the weather is nice in spring and fall) I carefully hand wash my baby, because the touchless system tends to leave a sort of dull glaze accumulating on the surface over time.

That sounds more like the Moving Object Detection (MOD) since you were stationary while in the car wash? Were you in gear and/or had the camera view turned on?

My neighbor purchased a Honda Pilot last week and it has a feature I think is cool; when you actuate your turn signal, it activates a camera on either side mirror showing the blind spot on the 8" display.

Nice, I would pay for that feature.
