First oil change?

A long time ago, they used to recommend getting an oil change at 20 mile and again at 1,000 miles on new cars. Is that still a recommendation?

I purchased my 2016 in late June and the dealer set up the first appointment in December. I'm guessing that with the long service interval (a little over 4 months) that the factory fill is synthetic oil. Does anyone know is they are using synthetic oil? What was the factory fill on the 7th Gen?

Page 9-8 of the manual :

"Your engine was filled with a high-quality engine oil when it was built. You do not have to change the oil before the first recommended change interval. Oil and filter change intervals depend upon how you use your vehicle."

Also the recommended viscosity oil is 0W-20.

I will likely change mine at about 1,500. Not because it's necessary or recommended - but because it makes me feel better.

Most 0W-20 oils you will find will be synthetic - there a few syn blends out there. I already have 28 quarts bought on sale in stock!

Does the passenger wheel have to be removed to access the filter? I saw only one video on you tube and he did it that way, seems like a real pain.

Not if you're going to put it on a lift or ramps.

I took my '16 Maxima in for an oil change at 3,000 miles, and the folks there told me they would change the oil if I insisted, but the Nissan assembly line no longer uses 'break-in' oil, and that the oil installed on the assembly line is top quality, and in normal driving is easily good for 5,000 miles. They said the situation where folks changed the oil very early in a car's life in order to get any bits of metal that may be in the engine when it leaves the factory ended in the late 1990s, and car manufacturers now build engines with much closer tolerances, and have no bits of metal whatsoever.

So I will be changing at 5K intervals. But those doing jack-rabbit starts or driving very aggressively or driving on unpaved roads or pulling a trailer or driving regularly in very cold or very hot climates or doing a lot of stop and go driving should probably change at a shorter interval.
