Amazing fail.. I just learned.
Amazing fail.. I just learned.
I just bought my 2016 SV last week.
A part of the sales pitch (and something I considered important) was the NissanConnect plus Mobile Apps. Services like Pandors, iHeartRadio, and TripAdvisor, along with Google. And a Premium offering that included a lot of what I had with OnStar in my 2013 Cadillac ATS.
So today, after registering at the Portal (where they proclaim proudly "Your vehicle is equipped with NissanConnect℠ with Mobile Apps") and downloading their mobile app... this care doesn't support ANY of those. Well actually, there is only 1 app supported -- Google.
Whaaat? I was totally lied to and misled by several staff members at the dealership. Now it's clear they just wanted that sale. We talked about all the cool apps I would have at my command. Remote unlock. Collision assistance. Roadside assistance. Stolen vehicle locator. NONE of them are available for the Maxima (SV)... and I cannot say if they are part of higher models or not.
I contacted the online CHAT resource and they verified that fact... NONE other than Google. Now that's poor form. A flagship vehicle (OK, not the Platinum model, but still the top of their line) doesn't have access to features used to sell the car? Lesser models have more abilities?
I post this here in case anyone is considering the new Maxima... what other misinformation is being floated to sell the metal? I believe if a feature is prominent in the marketing literature and touted at the closing table -- then it should be included and available! I don't like being outright lied to, and deceived.
This is still a nice car, no doubt. Just not what I was promised, and missing some important convenience and safety features that I considered while buying. I am beyond frustrated and completely distrusting Nissan now.
I know lots of professionals who might consider a new Maxima. Nissan, you can be assured I will relay my experience as often as I can. Shame on you, lying to someone buying your product is so sleazy.

They misunderstood the program. I thought I had the same service, I bought an SR and the Nissan connect services is different than what I have in Nissan connect. I sell dodge Chrysler jeep and ram almost all models with remote start and a key fob have a compatible app that runs said equipment. My Nissan SR is more expensive and has the top of the line equipment, blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning, nav, remote start adaptive cruise control ya da yada yada. The low trim levels of DCJR vehicles have a compatible app that controls remote start, locking and unlocking doors, flashing lights from anywhere in the world. I bought a 40K maxima and 20k darts and 200 have the features I do not have. Very disappointing. Nissan can surely update the apps and make this compatible in the future. Chrysler gives this as a free service to almost all vehicles. How do we proactively let Nissan know they messed up and have our needs met. Your problem is with an uninformed dealer, not Nissan. Just cause you had a lame *** weasel BS you doesn't mean Nissan should lose sales. The problem starts with your sales rep and dealer, Nissan can provide a solution.
I've been selling cars for 5 years and would not intentionally lie to make a sale. This occupation is about building a client base and living off repeat /referral business. They sound misinformed on product knowledge. Try and see if you can get something out of you troubles. Free accessories sound about right.

You say misunderstood, I believe they intentionally lied to him. I visited a Nissan dealers website just wanting to see what the Pathfinders were going for.
One of the salesmen who monitors the site asked if I had a question and if I needed information about a particular vehicle? I said I had a 2010 Maxima, was happy with it but that I didn't want anything brand new. He asked if I would be I interested in a 2015 Maxima?
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that Nissan didn't make a 2015 Maxima, right? Anyway, I told him to set one aside and email me when one was available. I suspect that I won't be getting an email from him any time soon.

Sorry you were intentionally/unintentionally lied to, this is why I always recommend doing a thorough research of a car BEFORE buying one, I read everything about the car on the manufactures website (were by the way it DOES show what apps are/are not offered by nissanconnect per vehicle), and if I had questions not answered there I would call the manufacture directly. This takes the "I got to make this sale, so say yes to everything" aspect out of it. In this day and age, the consumer has plenty of tools at their disposal to be more on an expert of the vehicle they are wanting to buy than the salesman selling the car.

Once you get past the " I can do this and I can do that remotely". I don't see paying for this service at all. I have it and even the remote locking unlocking feature is covered with the logic already built into the car to keep you from accidentally doing this seems good enough . The email notifications for the car traveling in and out of a user designated zone as well as going over a certain speed are not very helpful. No remote position reports or actual speeds are given to you in the emails sent out once these limits are set up on Connect. It just says it happened with no further details. Has anyone determined the actual monthly costs for just Connect?
Whether the sales consultant was lying or just ignorant, it does not matter, you did not receive what they advertised. You need to be compensated, as it is illegal to falsely advertise a product. If it were me, my starting point would be the return of the car and my money returned. I would definitely go back to the dealership and make sure that the dealer "makes it right".
You have to contact the Zone office to initiate a "buy-back" Problem is that you cannot adjudicate this in small claims so you could have 5 grand tied up at the git-go to litigate. There are aftermarket remote starts with remote apps that do all the what the Nissan connect does. That might be a cheaper way out if you gota have the features
Nissan Connect and Nissan Connect services are two different apps available on your smartphone. The first one, on the new maxima will only support Google. The second one will allow you to interface with your car to do things like remote start, flash lights/horn, lock/unlock, and send addresses to your vehicle.
I hope this helps.
It took me forever to figure this one out. I got frustrated that I couldn't do all the car interactions from the Nissan Connect app, and way later realized the Nissan Connect Services is a seperate app.
I bought my '16 Platinum yesterday =)

Thanks for the replies, advice, and experiences
After a good deal of angst, I now understand that the DEALER had no idea how their products work. I suppose this isn't directly the fault of Nissan, however they don't escape culpability completely in my book. Their role should be to make sure their product is represented accurately, and with integrity. After all, generally a car is the 2nd biggest purchase a regular person is likely to make. I know it is for me at least. I will get in touch with Nissan to share my story, however I don't expect large, multi-national corporation to think much of this on my behalf.
I also learned that there are indeed two kinds of services:
Nissan Connect and
Nissan Connect Services with Mobile
and two separate apps that must be on my phone. Oddly, this hard-to-find factoid makes NO DIFFERENCE in my Maxima.
Nissan Connect (powered by SiriusXM) is NOT available in my Maxima. This is the remote unlock, collision detection, stolen vehicle locator, etc (a few others). I was explicitly promised this, and it is not possible in my (supposedly) state-of-the-art Maxima... geez.
Nissan Connect Services with Mobile is where I would get Pandora, iHeartRadio, Google, TripAdvisor, Twitter, and Facebook connected to my car -- that is, if they actually were available for my car. They are not, except I did get Google. Wow. Really? The ONE service I don't need my car to interface with works. That's almost a slap in the face after all of this BS.
Hopefully, some few of you will either benefit from this experience captured here, avoid similar problems for yourselves, or perhaps advise others to watch their buying experience closely for lies and deceit.
I wish I had. I know I won't buy another Nissan. I never had ANYTHING like this with Cadillac, ever.
Thanks all.

Nissan Connect Services problems
As much as I have tried to embrace NISSAN Sirius, I am disappointed. I alerted them to a problem with the mapping interface on my phone, which was fixed. However sending destinations to the car has about a 50% success rate. The vehicle health report worked once, six months ago.
I'm wishing that Nissan had gone with Android Auto.
I'm wishing that Nissan had gone with Android Auto.
Situations such as this prompted me to change my car buying methods around twenty years ago. I now go to the Nissan site and read every word about each level of the model year Maxima I am buying.
I actually draw charts showing which levels have/do not have every feature in which I am interested. After nailing down the model I want, I begin checking the inventory of dealers around me until I find exactly the car I am looking for. I then make an offer on that car with the Internet Manager of my local Nissan dealer (with whom I have dealt for over twenty years).
She either rejects my offer or accepts and trades one of her cars with the dealer who has the car I want. I have bought the first year of each new Maxima generation that way since 1995. I did use printed Nissan literature instead of the internet during the late 1990s, but still mailed in my offer. I just avoid dealing with salespersons, who have to deal with around twenty Nissan products, so are not Maxima experts.

The total control app or second app referred to only works with the Platium model. The service is not available on any other model. I too am disappointed with this as I thought it worked on all models. On my Denali, the on star works flawlessly! With the troubles I am experiencing with my car, I am concerned about Nissan's quality control and design issues.

Well there is certainly a "needless complexity" in what works where. That confusion can and will alienate buyers especially after the sale. As I mentioned earlier, I have a Platinum and all features work as they should. That said, I would never pay anything for it after the trial period! The email reports on speed and location are lame. Ie: speed limited exceeded with date and time but no further info such as what the actual speed was. Same thing for the travel zones you can set up. Tells you out of zone incident but not location. That data must be available thru the GPS and built in cell equipment.
I wonder if some how we can get the program that Nissan uses to install software and install the full set up. I know a friend of mine that uses the BMW software and can install euro specs onto his US BMW if so dose any have any ideas
The only disappointing feature is that only with iPhones you cannot send texts from the infotainment system. The dealer said you could and you can't. He said plug in with the USB, nothing happens. Use voice recognition and it will send, not. Am I doing something wrong?
Not it has more to do with the phone. I was a little upset that I wasn't due for an upgrade yet. Straying away from Apple because of the limited connectivity we get.
Help me out here guys because I am a little confused. Are you saying that Pandora, iHeartRadio, etc. with the exception of Google search are not available on the Maxima? If so, I can only shake my head and sympathize. These same features were promised on the Q50 back in 2013.
I am strongly considering coming back to the Maxima family so I can claw back a couple hundred dollars in lease payments every month. While the absence of internet-based audio apps are not a big deal to me, I find it interesting that some Nissan dealers could be making the same empty promises to customers in 2016 that Infiniti was making to prospective Q50 owners.

Currently the only app that I am able to use is Google search. But Bluetooth audio streaming is fully functional whether it's through Pandora, iHeart radio, soundcloud, Spotify, and all other audio apps I can remember trying. I am also able to control the music with the infotainment system. But the Nissan connect apps are non existant

Gotcha. That makes me feel better. If I grab a Maxima, it would be the Platinum Edition.
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but if you have an iPhone, it will only work if your phone is physically plugged into the USB. None of the Nissan connect services app work via Bluetooth. Only way for me to get them to work is set it to Bluetooth audio and control using phone. I haven't tried android to see functionality, but I've read on the connect app faq, androids can operate the apps via bluetooth

when do we get apps?! do I need to hack my infotainment system and make it do what i want?
just to clairfy only nissan connect services works with the platinum and that's the remote door lock/unlock with remote start etc. the nissan connects apps which includes the above music apps do not work even with the platinum unless i'm missing something. I know i only see the google app..and I have a platinum..

These apps must be subscribed to on the Nissan Owners Portal:
https://owners.nissanusa.com/nowners/
Once you have subscribed to the apps at Nissan, and downloaded the Nissan Connect app on your Android (iPhone too maybe?), load it up, and you will find the Pandora et al on your menu in the car.
At least, that's what finally worked for me. Of course, I had to get OUT of my SV and buy the Platinum to get there. A long story.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but no. The Platinum also does not have any apps besides Google, though it does have both of those services. Nissan support says that they will not say if or when any additional apps will come for Maxima, despite the sales literature making a big deal about it.
A lot of folks have been snorting about the lack of availability and the non working aspects of these options with Connect. I might be one of the few that actually got the services working and can tell you, it's not worth the trouble or the extra subscription costs.
