2016 maxima reliability

Test drove Maxima plantium, the car is very good interior and exterior. But I am on the fence with regards CVT and having read so many people complain about transmission in previous models and Nissan itself doubling the warranty on 2003 to 2010 models.

Just curious as to what other feel about it.

Now over seven years driving nothing but the CVT. Not a hint of trouble. It has become my favorite tranny. There were CVT problems in the Altima for a year or two, but the CVT in the Maxima has been reliable. We certainly hear quickly from anyone who happens to have a CVT problem, but most folks are like me - never a problem, so we don't post about it unless asked.

Consumer Reports reliability tables, which are simply a reflection of the hundred thousand CU readers reporting on their car's reliability, show the Maxima CVT to be very reliable.

I love the CVT. Two years in an Altima 3.5SL and now seven months in my Max.

There is always a chance that a new car will need some sorting out. I usually would not buy a 1st year of any new car but I got a compelling deal and the Max Plat is so far ahead of the Acura TLX I had to give it a go.

FWIW, I care a lot more about handling and stiffer ride than I do about the gears, so I preferred the ride on the Maxima SR with CVT over other cars including the TLX and the V6 Accord and the Mazda 6 that have actual automatics.

FWIW, the TLX was my second favourite - I hated ride on the Accords, but I felt that Acura dropped the ball on the 2016 model with zero upgrades over 2015, not even the safety tech or CarPlay that the 2016 accords have. Maxima offered better ride.

Mazda 6 rode nice but really needed a bigger engine.

FWIW, street value for a new Maxima is significantly lower than MSRP so price difference at least to the SL/SR not that high
