Text messages not working

So I setup my iPhone 6S to the infotainment system so I can use hands free calling, text messaging, and playing songs from iTunes. Almost everything works great except for sending out text messages. Doesn't work. Is there something I can do to make this work? I receive them but cannot send them.

Is there a software update?

I would greatly any input

It's the limited connectivity with Apple products. I just recently switched from iPhone 6s to an LG G5, and worlds of difference. I am able to answer and hang up all the time using steering wheel. With Apple, it only allowed me a handful of times, others would either have to tap the screen or answer on the phone itself. Calls coming in now don't just show numbers, they actually show names of caller. I haven't played around much regarding other issues, but from what I see it's a night and day difference with android and the Max.

We can only hope with iOS 10 that it will open up and be more friendly with the Maxima, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

That sucks that Nissan doesn't have "Car Play" or whatever they call it to be compatible to the Apple. It's not Apple being the issues, it's Nissan what they chose to use, kind of sucks since I recently went from Android to Apple. Yet I have not gotten a new Maxima since that's one of the issue keeping me away from Nissan since there's no Car Play on their current line up, perhaps I hope they do change the software for 2017 to make it all phones work with their line up, Chrysler is another one, since my partner has a 2015 Dodge Ram with Uconnect and it doesn't let you connect for text or read, but only calls.
