New Recall: Brake Issue

http://www.autoblog.com/2016/04/21/n...r-brake-issue/

SUMMARY:
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016 Murano vehicles manufactured December 17, 2015, to February 11, 2016, and 2016 Maxima vehicles manufactured November 25, 2015, to February 12, 2016 and equipped with an antilock braking system (ABS) and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC). The ABS actuator may have a damaged O-ring that may result in a lack of brake fluid pressure.

CONSEQUENCE:
Insufficient brake fluid pressure may lengthen the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

REMEDY:
Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the ABS actuator, as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin by June 4, 2016. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

NOTES:
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Thank you for the heads up we all should call our dealerships to see if the word has made it down the chain yet. Chances are they will have to order the part anyway so might as well be proactive.

Why would you call the dealer? Did you miss this part "REMEDY:

Did you remove or disable the ABS actuator, and VDC when you upgraded to bigger brakes?

I took my Max in for 5000 mile service about two weeks ago and they told me about this recall. They just cross referenced some serial numbers/dates and I was in the clear and went about my day.

How much did that cost to do? Did you do it yourself or dealership?

Open the drivers door from the outside, look for a rectangular plate with numbers. Date of manufacture is on that plate.

And the manufacture date, right down to the day, is also on the lower right corner of the window sticker that came with the car.

I was not surprised to hear this recall. My brakes feel very soft and dull. I have not needed to really pound on them yet to test them, but does anyone else agree on this? Or is the recall not a noticeable issue and that is just the way the brakes are going to work? thanks for any insight!

1. The brakes are soft and dull-agreed. The master service technician at my local dealer explained to me that the brake pressure should feel light when driving slow and tight during higher speeds.

2. I just called my local Nissan dealer. Here's the scoop. I have to bring the vehicle in so that the tech can look at the ABS Actuator serial number. If the serial number is in the affected range, the tech must call Nissan N.A. with my specific VIN and order the recalled part. The part CANNOT be ordered prior to the service appointment! So, in other words, I have to bring the vehicle in twice. Not happy about that.

I like that the problem was discovered by Nissan themselves, reported by Nissan, and there has been no resulting incident so far reported by owners. Hundreds of dead folks would still be alive had GM approached their steering wheel lock switch problem with this type of honesty. A coworker from the company I retired from lost his daughter (his only child) just a few miles from my home because of this GM coverup.

I'm in the clear. My ABS actuator serial number is not included in the recall.

A stop-sale order is in place until the affected vehicles are repaired.
