Exclamation New Owner 2016 Platinum -

Greetings all. I've got about 1500 miles on a new 2016 Maxima Platinum. I have been noticing a feeling in my brake pedal, reminiscent of when you might feel a pulsating for warped or grinding for worn-out pads in the brake pedal when the brakes really really need attention.
It is a very "minor" feel with no noise associated with it, and the kicker is - it doesn't always happen. No rhyme or reason.
Also - this isn't new - its been happening since I got it.

Of course it will go back to the dealer but curious if this is a known thing.

Anyhow thought I would say "hey" and toss this out there.

Thanks!
Chris

I had that issue and took the car in to have it checked out. Turned out that they replaced the front rotors and brakes. Definitely have it checked out just in case it's something at the early stages of becoming major.

There is a quite lengthy thread on this phenomena already and I have been paying attention to mine ever since reading it. I agree it is a different feeling but I have not felt any "pulsating", just different and in my humble opinion, nothing to get excited about. YMMV

I have owned nothing but Maximas since October of 1984, and my 2016 Maxima is the FIRST ONE in which I have felt absolutely no hint of pulsating or vibration when braking. This has made me a very happy camper.

I'm not saying that you have a problem. I am simply saying that the pulsating/vibration you have detected is NOT in ALL 2016 Maximas. I would have the dealer check this out, just in case.

Maybe it is because of the Engine Braking feature. I have a SR, so I'm not sure if the Platinum even has this same feature. But in my SR, not that I felt the pulsation, rather I felt the braking just isn't linear for whatever reason. At first I didn't realize there is a Engine Braking feature, so I was surprised by the jerking type of non-linear deceleration under braking. But now that I've heard about this feature from the forum, it makes sense to me that the non-linear deceleration may be coming from the CVT downshifting. Maybe it is a placebo effect, now I feel that the SR's braking is very good for such a big car. On top of that, the Engine Braking feature can be turned off within the settings.

As I understand it, the SR is the only one of the five 2016 Maxima models with engine braking. I enjoyed engine braking on my 2004 and 2009 Maximas, and miss it on my 2016 Platinum.
