Why is Maxima 0-60 slow in several reviews!!! My 0-60 video provided

Hey Guys, I was so excited in driving in my Maxima last week, I decided to take a video of doing 0-60. This was in Normal mode and Manual shifting. I got 5.4-5.6 all the time. Also for some reason sport mode and auto is slow compared to Normal mode and Manual shifting.

Anyways, this is completely different from some reviewers getting the 0-60 in 6-6.2 range. Are they testing it differently? Am I doing something wrong? I thought the older maxima's were getting to 60 in 5.8 seconds.

My 0-60 video:

My money is on most "reviewers" or "testers" not being aware of the detent position of the gas pedal that you need to pass to put the throttle into WOT mode.

Just thinking here, but could there be a difference between timing the video vs of timing the actual event? OP never stated how he obtained the times.

I don't think so.. First I record the video of 0-60.. then copy video to my laptop and use software time stamp to measure.. While watching video I reconfirm by keeping a stop watch handy and start the clock as soon as I hit the gas pedal and stop at 60... Doing this gets me 5.45-5.6 seconds on several runs.. Several runs give me same result maybe off by .1 or .2 but not anything above 5.7 seconds.

Nissan states 5.6 which seems logical, but some auto magazine and reviewers state 6-6.1 seconds which is what Avalon does with less hp and heavier body...

I know maxima has several other advantages but doing 0-60 in this maxima is an absolute thrill.. smoking Acura, Lexus is350 is fun..

I thought it interesting to see the estimated remaining miles drop from 215 to 213 real quick. Ah what the hell.

That is interesting.. I did not see that until you pointed it out.. But isnt that normal for any cars? Flooring reduces mileage I guess. Especially with 300 hp

Yep; normal for any car. Even hitting an extended slight uphill grade in the road will drop the estimated remaining miles fairly quickly. The ERM is influenced by how much fuel the car is using per mile during the most recent section of travel. The estimate should not be counted on if the terrain or driving conditions will be changing significantly during the journey.

Thank you!

Question to my fellow max owners... Can you please chime in with your 0-60 numbers? I am curious to see.

No kidding it would be normal. Just amazing how we can watch numbers actually change before our very eyes. Wow

Sorry, but that has nothing to do with it. I tested this theory, the car is no faster and has 0 impact on CVT shifting.

How are you quantifying your 0-60 times? From the video? If so, that's hardly accurate. Although the publications have recorded 0-60 time in the ~5.8 - 6.2 range, the 1/4 times and trap speeds are in ~100 MPH range. Not too bad for a ~3500 lb vehicle, 300 HP motor and CVT transmission. Specifically when the throttle is restricted at WOT @ higher speeds.

I calculate 0-60 times not just by videos alone. It is combination of both videos and real world. Videos are accurate as I have time stamp on my video editor which can calculate accurately down to millisecond. I don't think there would be a lag in video vs real world to notice any huge discrepancy. Isn't video instantaneous??

Also measuring immediately from the time you push the gas pedal and stop at 61 gives me the 5.6-5.7 numbers. Two out of ten tests, I am able to get to 5.45 but nothing below that. I have never gone above 5.7.. My worst was 5.72..

Anyways, if anyone of max users can chime in with their personal best 0-60 would be greatly appreciated.

With Torque Pro and GPS, 6.1s on a road with 1% gradient @ Sea Level. Haven't tried brake torquing. Just flashing the CVT and a little wheel spin.

The 7th Gen was faster if left in Drive mode with no shifting. Is that no longer true? That was verified by individuals and magazine testing.

Read through some of the reports on the 2015 version and most do state that D is slightly faster than Sport as it relates to 0-60 and 1/4 mile times.

Trying to understand why this would be the case. Sport mode does have definitive feel of quicker acceleration...almost instantaneous when the pedal is pushed, so it would be surprising to me if, in fact, Normal mode is overall faster.

Sport mode simply increases ETC sensitivity and opening rate. For this reason, the motor feels more responsive due to enhanced throttle rates.

I think what others are saying, in Normal mode, the behavior of the CVT is more favorable at WOT runs from a standing start. Although there's no comparison between 2015 and 2016 CVT versions. The latter is more improved.
