3rd brakelight delete

I had my dealer order and install an oem body color sport spoiler. Love the way it looks. However I didn't like the fact that both the new brake light in the spoiler and the original 3rd brakelight in the rear window both light up. It just screams add-on to me.

The 3rd brakelight in the rear window is easy to deactivate. Crawl into the backseat and gently pull the 3rd brakelight housing up and towards you. The plug to disconnect it was under some gray foam tape.

Simple and easy!

Sorry, I didn't think to take pics of the process. But it was so simple they really weren't needed.

Believe me I am one of those "break more than I fix types." But this really was easy. You would think that the wiring harness plugs into the back of the led brake light assembly, but it doesn't. You follow the wires back a little farther and you should see a gray lump of foam tape. The plug is actually inside that. Just peal the foam tape off and the wiring harness easily unclips.

Not yet, but I've only made a few short trips. I'll keep you posted if it triggers any warnings.

I personally don't see the big fuss about deleting the 3rd brake light if you add a spoiler. Imo with as many dumb *** drivers that are out there texting and playing with their stereos navs and phones etc the more brake lights the better. But to each there own as well.

Fixing what does not need fixin!

Yes I agree! The more warning lights, the better + the interior brake light is a tad higher than the spoiler, and easier to see if the oncoming driver is in a truck.

But once you tint the glass, the inside light is less visible then the exterior LED's. Besides, it just looks rice to have 2 third brake lights...

Lol. Well if rice was the desired look the spoiler would be taller than the roof lol.

I have a 2nd brake light too but i don't see the issue with more light in the back especially in the fog and its just safer in general no ones gonna know why you have 2 brake lights.

Flip side to that, it could also be a distraction. People are looking at it thinking, why 2 third brake lights??? next thing ya know they are flossing their teeth with your spoiler!

If the potential rear enders see the brake light or lights, there is a better chance of them stopping.

5 days and 100 miles and still no warning light. So, should be good!

Unplugging the 3rd brake light is just a matter of taste. I know I wont ever see it, but it still irritates me to know that they were both lit up!

I personally dont feel that having the extra light is going to do much in the way of preventing a rear end collision.

If you have a factory spoiler there is no rear window light I'm guessing? The shelf is just flat?

I feel ya, and I feel/felt the same way as you do about that third light...as you said it states obvious add on....! I deleted it from my 89 GXE way back when, totally removed it and had a plug that they offered then to fill that spot!

No, factory spoiler still has 3rd brake light on the shelf. 2016 was the first year they did this (annoying imo). I, personally, just popped open the shelf brake light disconnected it.

When I got my sport spoiler installed, I told the dealer to unplug the 3rd brake light. But when they did that, it was disconnecting the rear sun blind and therefore you can't use the sun blind anymore.
Is it true that both the sun blind and the 3rd brake light use the same connection??

I picked it up and could not be more happy. My local dealership parts dept were ******** and refused to help me but i called up beeline parts and had the pleasure talking to Nick. If you need anything Nick's the man. He went out of his way to make a sale on a 7 dollar part. Thanks Nick

Thanks for posting that! Will be hard for my local parts-jerks to disavow. Is there just the one color - and it is a plastic piece i'm guessing?

Its a piece of plastic and you can get it in different colors to match your interior. I would skip the headache of dealing with your local dealer and give nick a call.
