Regular or Premium Gas

I apologize in advance as I'm sure this has been covered a gazillion times, but I haven't found anything recent, especially for the 2016. Just bought our first Maxima today (silver Platinum) and wanted to get advice from you experts on regular vs premium gas. First tank is filled with premium, but lots of Internet chatter seems divided on what to do. Advice appreciated!

I've been using regular gas and have had no issues. I used premium a few times and have not noticed a performance difference.

Also been using regular. Maybe a slight difference in sport mode performance, but not enough where I would say it is worth switching back to premium. Been getting 29.8 mpg with regular too, so pretty solid.

To be honest, it pains me to see people use regular when the manufacturer recommends premium. They recommend premium for a reason and I would rather just stick to that and spend the little bit extra on gas for a 40k dollar car....I've had other performance vehicles that would ping even on 91 octane. Wish we consistently had 93 octane where I live...

They recommend premium to get the advertised power out of the vehicle. Keep in mind that it's RECOMMENDED and not REQUIRED. The owners manual states that regular fuel can be used provided it meets the right requirements as pretty much all stations in the U.S. do. My Lexus says PREMIUM ONLY and I use PREMIUM ONLY. Using regular gas lessens the performance output of the Maxima, but for me and my family, we don't haul *** in it or do anything like that. If I wanna go fast I'll jump in my Cobra or Hyabusa.

Thanks for pointing that out. I wasn't thinking about whether it was required or recommended. I'm used to driving vehicles where premium is required. That makes me feel better....but I'll still use premium chevron only...
