Without knowing underneath, hidden or frame damage pretty hard to guesstimate. I would put it at +25K from the experience that I have seen of less damaged cars being repaired. If this was already declared totaled some repair shops wouldn't even attempt it.

I'm not too experienced in this type of major repair but from experience getting my GTO repaired after an accident I would say just what can be seen would be over 10k for repair. That isn't even including what can't be seen!

I'm not an expert in major repairs, but my wife had a truck repaired that was not damaged anywhere nearly as badly as your car, and it took five months, three frame straightenings, two complete repaintings, and cost over $10 grand. Even without being able to see the inevitable hidden damage, I would be surprised if repairing this car cost less than $20K. You also need to check out the legal situation. Can a car that has been totaled or put in salvage situation be legally titled and licensed after being fixed? I honestly don't know.

Not to mention a salvage title car is worth substantially less than a car with a clean title. If you paid more than $5000 you better be in this for the long haul to recover the investment in repairs.

Fact is you are better off buying a new/used Gen 8 max than overhauling a totaled one that has no value if you ever try to sell it down the line.

I'm not sure how you are all seeing high dollar repair. $10,000 yeah, I can see it up there, but not too much more then that. It's not a hard hit, just a lot of parts that will add up. The whole left front corner that took the brunt of it, I bet the radiator support isn't even off by that much if at all. Looking at the broken bumper cover, it looks like the support behind that didn't even move.

Assuming the guy had insurance, if it was just 10k in repairs, it would have been repaired rather than totaled.

Totally agree. This thing doesn't look bad at all, and repair prices at shops are OUTRAGEOUS. I can definitely see some shop quoting this at $10k+ but anybody remotely capable - even in as much as fitting your own panels after having a shop paint them - can do it wayyyyyyy cheaper overall. I can't see any obvious frame damage (and although technically it might be tweaked, the outer fitment can probably turn out just fine visually despite some inside tweaks/ugliness).

I have a friend of a friend who had their oil changed at Walmart on a 2009 Mazda 3. Walmart failed to latch the hood and the hood popped up. Didn't bust the windshield or do anything like that. Literally ALL it did was dented the hood in a couple spots near the windshield washer nozzles (from hitting the wiper arms), and bent the front two fenders outward where it meets the cab/windshield area. The fenders could almost certainly be re-bent back in by hand.

Anyway, this girl went to several shops to get estimates and the LOWEST quote was $4,600. For damage that literally required only a hood and two fenders!

Especially as a personal keeper car, this thing does look like a steal indeed depending on the price. I'm really curious what the OP paid for this 8th gen? Please fill us in so we can determine how jealous we are

Valid point, but it does beg the question...

Too bad you don't live in southern Texas by the border. You could get this car repaired for way less than $5k, if that. Personally I wouldn't have bought it, but if you like it then stick with it and make something out of this car and bring it back to life.

My wife's Lincoln MKX was hit from behind in June and it looked pretty minor. Repairs totaled just over $10K and was in the shop almost four weeks. The picture makes it look worse than it was. Quarter panels just needed a touch up and the bumper replaced and the supports under it.
This Max looks a lot worse. Strap in and hold on. It's about to get expensive.
