I got my mirror taps from Blendmount.com, they have an awesome bracket that holds my V1 right under my rear view mirror. I love it! I will try to get some pics posted later.

Pics would be cool.
Ive been looking at the Amazon link and it is alot better $$ than buying from blendmount.com.
The Amazon one looks more generic / but who really looks back there behind the mirror? The jaws that tighten around the mirror stalk are going to leave marks for sure unless it is plastic.

The plug to the mirror

This molding unclips and allows easier access to the plug.

I installed the "Tap" and the mount today. Didn't take real long. I took some pictures of the plug before and during. Its just 2 wires, red and black - the trick was making sure they were attached to the correct wire.

The factory wire unclips from the back of the mirror easily. Then there is a small piece of molding that you can remove to give you easy access to the plug.

I tested to see which wires were going to be hot and negative by inserting some tiny copper wire at the rear of the plug and probing with a Fluke until I got it right.

Testing for + and -

The radar detector adapter wires inserted.
The outer wire is + and the "third" wire is -.
EDIT - this configuration provides constant 12v.
Use the Yellow/Black wire as + for "switched" 12v.
All went smoothly - Here is a pic of the mount, ready for the detector to slide onto a lock in.

Ready for the detecter

Now that I have the Radar detector in hand, its obvious to me that I made a bad choice regarding the particular wires I chose. The detector has to be turned off and on manually, as this is constant 12V - not switched.

I dont have pics yet but I know mine was tapped so that when the car is off, the radar detector goes off. I will try to get some pics when I get back home on 9/7.

Frazierts, you are correct - that is the switched wire.
I edited my original post to reflect this.

So now that I've had a chance to look at it for a while - I'm not liking it too much - blocks easy access to the Home-link buttons. If I thought it would still function OK I'd move it to the upper left area (circled red).

Anyone know if the window treatment will block radar or laser light?

Looks like you don't even have to take the plug out, or am I wrong?

Hey guys, I'm new here, reviving an older thread. I just got a Maxima on Saturday and since I intend to keep it for awhile I was wanting to wire my Valentine One into the mirror like MyMax1 shows in this thread. My question is for the Blendmount buyers, was the mount worth the extra money over just the regular the suction cups the V1 came with?

Thanks in advance, Luke

I ran my 9500 on the provided single suction cup mount. It looks just like it is up with a blend mount because the suction cup is up behind the mirror. The blend mounts are nice but I didnt want to wait for shipping and turned out to be 100% happy with my install. I also used the v1 power tap kit from the fuse box and ran the wire up the a piller under the roof liner. (I have an SR no sun roof)Again only did it because I had the stuff in my tool box and was bored one night. Plus $50 is a set of LED high beams haha

Just joined as well as I'd been lurking for some tricks and tips. If you don't want to shell out the $100 or so for the Blendmount, you can use this one (I have it, but with an Escort detector and can update with pics later):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0788WRVNB/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (or similar for Valentine: https://www.amazon.com/Radar-Mount-Mirror-Bracket-Power/dp/B00JG5RHLK/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1517425708&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=mirror+mount+valentine+one&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0788WRVNB/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (or similar for Valentine: https://www.amazon.com/Radar-Mount-Mirror-Bracket-Power/dp/B00JG5RHLK/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1517425708&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=mirror+mount+valentine+one&psc=1
)

You'll notice that that's a bundle with the wire tap too, however, I tried that tap and the leads are too large for the 8G Maxima's wiring harness. So I went with this one for a grand total of about $55: https://www.ebay.com/itm/183028165243 (the leads are small and went right in the first time, flawless). On amazon they have just the mirror mount (not bundle) for the Valentine too.

Gonna bring this thread back up again as I was having trouble doing what was supposed to be a routine install. I got the trim covering off of the mirror wire with no issues, but I could not get the wiring harness in the back of the mirror unplugged. Any tips you guys can offer, I am assuming the small white piece of plastic underneath is the release latch but I could not figure out how to move it to get it to go. Anything you got would be appreciated.

My experience is somewhat different than some others here. I bought the mirror tap, but decided afterwards that I'd rather run the wiring up the A Pillar and across the roofliner. I have the 16 Platrinum, and the sunroof presented no issues on this install.

My reasoning was simple. If the car is on, I want my 9500ix on. If its off, same condition. I can turn it off at the unit if desired, but generally, it is always at its post!

I also wanted the remote MUTE button that is now second nature for my left hand below the dash. I don't think it would be nearly so easily managed if I had to reach the actual unit whenever I wanted to mute an alert. As it is, the install took about 30 minutes, no tools to speak of, and its perfect. And no potential warranty issues with any of the fancy electronics in the mirror system/Homelink gear. I had heard that Nissan likes to opt out of obligations for repair given the slightest opportunity -- none given here!

Good luck, if you haven't already done your work here. Best move I have made in my mods, saved me many times over.

PS: Buy a real detector, not one of those cheap toy models! Its worth every penny spent...

Couple of things - My 9500ix is worthless where I live - every single luxury car has the active collision avoidance system which means I'd have to turn off K-band altogether unless I want to suffer through constant alerts. Escort's "learning" software update did not exist at the time for this unit, so I bought the iX and it works great!

Secondly, the mirror method in the Maxima offers TWO options - One of them is always on when the car is on, the OTHER is always on even when the car is OFF. So I'm not sure what you gained in that regard. Just depends on which tap you use. Mine can be removed in a matter of seconds and re-inserted later in the case of Nissan warranty work. Did I miss anything?

Finally just out of curiosity, how do you get your mute button to the LEFT below the dash? My smart cord plugs into my cigarette lighter - which is to the right of the dash. Did you hard wire a mute button into your dash?

Interesting, I don't have such issues with my 9500ix and collision prevention false alarms. I run on AUTO noX all the time, and I am very satisfied. I suppose the standard caveat is your mileage may vary

As for the mute on left... I bought the hardwire connect, and went into my fuse box -- exactly for the reason you mentioned... I don't want the wire hanging down in my cab, and connecting to my lighter slot (which is only used for my phone charger).

The hardwire cable is plenty long for the reach, and the mute being down below the switches on the left is out of the way, and an easy glide over with my left hand to silence an alert (like when I'm driving unusually legal and don't care about radar).
