HOW to update the actual navi map?
I thought it was simple - insert card and ready to go. Wrong. With the new SD card installed, it goes into constant reboot mode.
How do you update maps? There is no "update" or "upgrade" option anywhere in the menu system.

what card are you inserting?
According to official source of Navigation upgrade, neither 2016 nor 2017 had official update issued yet:

There was another navigation thread, where two guys using "newer" nissan cards actually hosed their systems.

Oh ok. I wasn't sure if there was an update available or not? I guess I should have be more clear in my post. I have not tried to do any type of update, SD card or anything.
I just noticed some errors in my local maps and thought there might be one available. I will watch the forums here and sure it will be discussed when an update is released. I hope soon..

i suggest updating maps every few years, it certainly can be done each year, but each update will be around $150.
additionally, the maps are typically way behind google maps, due to delay in actual map info update.

When you get the updated map, you will need to enter a code to process the update. This is the code that is provided once you pay for the update. Without the code you will get stuck at the code prompt. However, it will start to update first and upgrade the firmware before it asks you for the code. So if this occurs, you will brick your system and you'll need to go to Nissan to have a new OEM card ordered (the one that came with the car originally, which is extremely outdated) and installed by the dealer. As long as you pay for the update and get the code, you should be G2G. Take it from me.
The map package that came with my 2016 Maxima (built August 20, 1915) was either the 2013 or 2014 version, and did not show several streets around me that were constructed in 2010 and 2011. A few months ago, I read a post somewhere here on maxima.org that said a newer version of the map package would be available around October of this year. I haven't had time to follow through, but I do know the complete info on the maps and DS cards is on pages 65 through 74 of the 2016 Nissan Connect With Navigation book that came with the 2016 Maxima. It gives lots of warnings about trying to do anything with the SD cards. It left me with the feeling we must go through our dealer to obtain any map updates. I will definitely be doing that whenever I find the time, as I use these maps almost every time I am in the Maxima and more than a few miles from home.
I know you are one of the older and most mature Maxima org members.
It looks like you also have a distinction of having the oldest Maxima known to man - 1915 edition, and it has Navigation!
I believe Ford only sold one car color at that time!

Nav updates for many car companies use a Navigation data from company called HERE (formerly known as NAVTEQ). For whatever reason, they are very slow to release updated info, maybe they don't use crowdsourcing like google does, maybe they have crappy process of picking up changed/added roads.
Compared with Google Maps you are essentially getting obsolete data that is year or two old at best.
maxud - At least the handle of the steel crank I insert through the grille in order to start the engine of my 1915 Maxima is covered with smooth Ascot leather and is heated so that it won't stick to my hands when the temperature drops below zero.
Meaningless fact - The first car my Dad ever drove was a Ford that was actually started via hand-cranking the engine through the grille. If he were still alive, Dad would have been 111 years old on September 13, 2016.
Second meaningless fact - The first Nissan I ever drove was a little Datsun I drove around Yokohama and Tokyo in the late 1950s. Nissan sold all their vehicles under the Datsun name until 1984. Nissan is now assembling Datsuns again in several parts of the world. I almost always wear Datsun T-shirts when lounging around the house or working in the yard.
Third meaningless fact - I apologize for taking this thread back to the days of outdoor toilets and homes lit by oil lamps.
