Sonar

Hey guys,

So I purchased a platinum and I was wondering if the sonar is supposed to work to detect walls or still objects when parking, or if it is just to detect moving objects? I haven't really heard it go off, so I'm curious.

Thanks!

Mine sound the alarm almost every time I enter or leave my garage, and go wild every time I nuzzle up to a shrub or wall when pulling into a parking space. If I back anywhere near the neighbor's recycle bin, the rear sonar sounds an alarm. The alarm I like best is the one on each side of the rear that let me know if a vehicle is coming from either side when I am backing out of a parking space from between two vans or trucks or any vehicles that block my view to the side.

Much cheaper sonar sensors work fairly well but it does mean you need to clean them now and then for best operation. Sometime back you could retro fit a radar based back up alarm (not a camera) to older cars and put the small block shaped radar emiter/sensor underneath your plastic bumper cover as long as it was centered and pointing the proper angle. I did this with two different cars. Money well spent! So glad that our tech features are being used to help us when we back up now. I rely heavily on the Sonar warnings and the camera! The 360 degree view is great!
