Buy now, or wait?
Hello fellow maxima friends,
After a few years I am back - sold my 2003 Maxima SE when I started working in consulting so I have been carless for a few years (which frankly has been great as I live in Chicago and there is tons of stuff in walking distance of my place)
At any rate, I am moving for a new job in a new city will likely need a new car. I am leaning towards a 2017 Maxima Platinum. Right now there is a dealer offering one for $33,363 + taxes, and I plan on taking advantage of the 0% APR financing. I will also see if I can convince the dealer to stack the factory cash back (unlikely, but I will try). Looks like the current incentives expire on 3/31. However, I am assuming that they will announce a new model in June. Would it be worth it to wait and see if the 2017 prices will fall further? If I do so, obviously I risk losing the current incentives. Also, when a new model is announced, does that new model generally sell close for MSRP, or is there still room to negotiate?

That price sounds very good.
There will not be a new model in June, there WILL be new model year (2018's) sometime this summer. Whether there will be any significant updates is not known at this time. But yes, after the 2018's arrive at the dealers, the deals will likely get a little better.
Whether you buy now or later will likely depend more on your need than cost savings.

That's a pretty good price, sure you could wait, but you could also give them back one more final counter before you wait, see if they come down another 1000 or 2. You're likely right on that edge of break even for them. but again, if your plan turns out to "wait", give them a ridiculous counter and if they flinch, take the new deal.

Also, doing some math, looks like incentives might make more sense. I am well into Tier 1 credit territory, so even at 2.9%, I pay around $1,800 in interest. At the current offer of $3,500 cash back, might make more sense to take the package (IF they didnt bake it into the advertised price already)

Yeah, I agree they probably wont. But they advertised the $33k without mentioning incentives! I will push HARD for the incentives, but if they dont offer them, it's still a good deal. I'm hoping I can play the "its nearing the end of the model year, let me help you get this car off your lot" card.

all that being said... you're looking at $38k + TTL without rebates, for a platinum... not bad. I got mine for $39
