It is the sound of your car crying because you turned it off. Get back out there!

Can you tell if it's electronic or mechanical? I don't know but it might help others answer your question.

I can't think of what your noise may be, but it is definitely NOT NORMAL. I have owned nothing but Maximas since purchasing my 1985 2nd gen, and have never heard anything like the noise you are describing that lasted more than a few seconds. If it lasted a few seconds, or even twenty or thirty seconds, I probably would not be too concerned. But AN HOUR? Time to have a serious chat with your service manager.

Noise after it is turned off may be voltage bleeding off the electric power steering. I suspect there is a capacitor that may hold certain voltage for a time so a power failure doesnt leave you with no PS. It seems odd this would last for an hour though. My guess is there is a voltage bleed off somewhere there shouldnt be... I bet if you leave the car sit for several days you may come back to a dead battery. Def worth having the dealer look into.
