Climate air level mode changes automatically

I've noticed on multiple occasions that when the climate mode is set so the air comes towards the ground, the mode will automatically change to the upper setting (face). It does this sporadically. Any idea why this happens?

You manually set it to floor, where the "auto" light is turned off?

One more question; this is happening without turning the engine off and back on?

Correct. It happens while driving. I'll be driving along and then feel air blowing on my face. Even my gf asked why it changed. Very strange...

That's what the "auto" setting does. It's normal.

No it's not normal. He doesn't have it set to auto.

Started noticing a strange problem with my '17 as well, now that the warmer month are coming to Ohio. How in the world do you set the system to just blow outside air, no AC? I've read the operation of the system in owner's manual but no luck. The AC button is never lit, but I often feel cold conditioned air coming through the vents with Auto NOT selected and the system manually turned on via the fan speed button. Sometimes I can switch the system off and then back on with just the fan speed button and feel ambient outside air for awhile, then the air feels conditioned again! At idle I can depress the AC button off and on and see the idle speed flick a bit so I know that works. In AUTO mode sometimes I get conditioned air, sometimes not, but no way can I control WHEN I get either conditioned air or ambient air. I'm coming up on 5,000 mile first service but I don't want to sound like an idiot to the service people. I never had this type of problem with the Altima. When I turned that system on the AC came on automatically but all I had to do to get non-conditioned air was to just hit the AC button until the graphics displayed a snowflake with a line through it, turning off the AC. What gives? How do I operate this crazy Maxima system?

Thanks

I do know that if you increase the temperature setting from cooler to warmer, it will default to blow at your feet. When you go back to cooler, it will switch back to the upper vents.
