Anyone Regret Getting their 8th Gen Yet?

Hello,

I just bought my 8th gen Maxima last week and I don't regret getting my car. I bought it primarily because of its price ($27,800 New SR) My favorite feature of the car is all the technology and the CVT which makes the car more calm to drive.

I also have a 2016 Altima 3.5 SL and 2006 G35X. The Maxima drives nearly EXACTLY like the Altima, in my opinion, except it rides firmer.

Does anyone second guess their choice of their car yet? Or if there was one thing you could change, what would it be?

I was just wondering; it sure seems like most people are very happy with their purchase. I definitely dislike the dealer I bought the car from (Wayzata Nissan) but it has nothing to do with the car.

Thanks and I hope this post doesn't ruffle any feathers.

Im wishing i waited and went for the focus RS. My maxima SR is nice but after 18K miles i can say it has no soul. I dont feel connected to the road when driving i feel like im flying over it. Without that connection driving is boring and lacks excitement. The cvt is half the problem as it feels slow and unpredictable. Sometimes it does fake shifts and others it stay at 6k rpm while you accelerate to 60. Add to that the numb electric steering and im staring to regret my purchase.
The icing on the cake is the seat belt lock. It constantly locks me in the seat whenever i give it a bit of gas and it fights me to unlock. I have to pull on the belt to get it to unlock. I find myself doing that about 10 times a day if i try to drive spirited.
Dont get me started on how much i hate the bose sound system, i already dropped a grand to add a sub but the sound overall still sounds flat and without life.
At this point im considering taking a huge loss to try and trade in the maxima for a focus RS. Im going to swing by the ford dealership tomorrow and take a look at it.

Yeah, I haven't liked any of my interactions with them, so never purchased from them.

That said, I love my 8th gen Maxima.

ive rented the mww altima and i find the new maxima to drive much better
I bleive its to do with the traditional power steering vs the electric.
I totaly enjoy this new maxima. I had a 2014 kia optima turbo sxl and i must say this is much more refined.

I have the sv so i dont have the full list of options like bsm like i did on my optima. I still enjoy this car more
maybe my next maxima will be the platinum one.
whi knows.

Would you mind telling us your age and driving habits. I have a suspicion why you might prefer a hopped-up econobox like the Ford Focus. Young, single, aggressive driving habits....just guessing here.

27800 for an SR sounds a bit unbelievable to me... Thats less than high end Altimas sell for.

Lol, it is a new 2016 model and it was the last 2016 Wayzata Nissan had left. I did not think $27,800 was a great deal.

I had cross shopped a Camry/Accord but they were around the $30K range. I mostly regret not getting a platinum model but I am overall, satisfied with the car.

I definitely would not buy from Wayzata Nissan again, however. My car was incredibly dusty/dirty outside when it was presented to me. Not fun to have to clean a brand new car for a 2 hours.

Of note, I have yet to see another 8th gen Maxima in Minnesota. Plenty of Altimas however!

My only regrets are the horrible fishy smell I keep getting periodically from the vents (I posted about this before), the fact that replying to texts on iPhone is not supported, and my not-so-great interest rate Nissan gave me despite my excellent credit. Will probably try to refinance elsewhere in a few months. I will say I'm very thankful for the frontal crash warning because it saved me from having a wreck recently. And I love how it handles in sport mode. 2017 Platinum here.

The sticker on my 17 SR was 41K. You mean to tell me they dropped 14k off the price of the car??

Wow...41k for a max SR? I only paid 32 for my SR. If you go on the right day and business is slow...they will work any deal for you! 41k is the price of most platinum models I see. At that price you mines well try for a Q50s

Im 33 and single. My last 2 cars were a GTI and the last one i when APR stage 1 for more power. I felt like the maxima had what i was looking for when i bought it. Overtime tho it has proven to lack the fun i had with my GTI. Fun is not needed in a car but i miss that connection i had with the road when i was in my GTI.
I went today and sat in the focus and i fit at 6'3" 260 but its a tight fit. I will also be losing a lot of features the maxima has that the ford does not like remote start and ac seats. I talked numbers with ford and im looking at about a 12k loss. Ford is going to give me 24k for the maxima which is sad that it lost that much value in 15 months. Im also not sure about the extra warranty i purchased from nissan if i can get that back. If so i will lose about 2-3k less
Ford will call me back in the morning. I thought i was ready for a calmer car when i got the maxima but i miss that connection, excitement and fun that comes from a hot hatch.

Focus RS:

1. Good luck with that engine.
2. Good luck with driver seating position.
3. Good luck with ****-pounding ride.
4. Good luck with rust.
5. Good luck with $40k price for econobox on steroids. You will be in European sports car territory with your checkbook.
6. That said, there is a butt for every seat. Enjoy your new ride, sincerely.

I had 2 GTI's and the audi i want is out of my price range
Im not sold on it yet but im thinking about it.

I've seen a few of us out in the NW suburbs, but yeah, few and far between. I like it that way.

Crazy how people will happily take a 12k hit to change cars.... Perhaps I'm jealous?

2017 Platinum Black on Black

I have the 17' Platinum I bought from Nissan World of Denville and I love it. No regrets here on the car love that I got the Platinum model since I have the 1996 GLE and love the leather seats. The heated and cooled seats are the best thing for me when driving. So far I just hit the first 5k miles on it since picking it up on Dec 9th 2016. The black is hard to keep clean here in NY in the winter but I knew that as my other car is black also. The car is very fast smooth ride and sport mode sure tightens up the steering and changes the engine revs. The only thing I do not like is I cannot use the cruise control without the adaptive feature. Also if I am making a tight merge the forward collision system will brake the car hard unless I accelerate it harder. So that is the only issue I have with that system. I know its there for safety but it's annoying.

I don't know if Nissan has changed anything since the 6th gen but my 2004 developed rust around the rear wheel wells and on the roof around 5 years into ownership. I can't imagine Ford being any worse.

Just sold my '07 Altima SL to my neighbor for $8,000. Had 126,000 trouble-free miles. Not a speck of rust here in the Ohio rust belt. Also she does not have any leaks and uses no oil at 10,000 mi. oil changes (100% synthetic). Such a fine little car. This was my first Nissan and it encouraged me to go with a 2nd Nissan, yes even with CVT! I prefer this trans.

I live in Eden Prairie too (part time)! And I have definitely seen your car, Franzrosearth2!

I saw it at the Eden Prairie Walmart and you were parked towards the middle/rear of the lot. But I definitely could not miss your car. Your wheels, I thought were red, at the time.

As for mods, I want that surround camera and double moon roof that the Platinum model has. However, they did not have any 2016 Platinums remaining and they probably would not reduce the price quite as much.

What does ARTHS stand for?

The biggest annoyance I have with the car is the auto-locking feature and the wish I have for Apple Carplay.

Yup, that was definitely me. Yes, i used to have a red wheels. Yeah, how i wish we get the best of both worlds like having the same options as the plat and the SR suspension. Doing that mods on an SR especially the moonroof would cost more because shop needs to fabricate do some custom cut on our roof.

ARTHS - Arthas World of warcraft/ Warcraft, my kid's name. Yeah, that little geeky side of me showing up.

The auto locking option can be turned of in the setting in your steering wheel options.

Yeah, getting the SR for 27k was quiet a good deal. I had mine at $40+ but of course, that was last 2015. Makes me want to bang my head sometimes but that is how car depreciation works most of the time. :/

MN SV checking in

Side note: Franz, I saw your Maxima at the car show today at Canterbury. (Ignition) Is that plasti-dip?

I have a Pearl White 2016 SV that I got at the end of 2016. (November) I live in the NW suburbs and I see a few of them around. I think that Brooklyn Park Nissan is selling quite a few of these. goodcarbadcar.com has sales stats for the country by month if you want to know how many of these have been sold.

I do not regret my purchase. The electronic steering isn't an issue for me. I do like Ford but I like the VQ more. Nissan seats are wonderful. The CVT doesn't bother me when it has the power behind it.

I read that this Maxima was #1 for resale value for full sized vehicles. (a shrinking segment being replaced by SUV's) I think the SV may be the best for resale value since the blind spot monitoring and similar features may not return as much as things like leather or V6 if that is an available option. (example: the 4 cylinder Atlima is not rare at all, therefore worth much less than the 6 cylinder Altima at resale time)

I could have gotten the Platinum but I also saved a lot on my SV. (I came from an SL Altima with Bose and moonroof) The best new car deals seem to be Nov-Dec when buying the current model year. No Ragrets. I should get a tattoo that says that.

Same can be said of your opinion. That's my view that it looks horrible, if you don't like it, move along. Your comment was way more negative than mine.

I just joined the party this past week. I bought a white SL from EP Nissan. They were great to deal with after having just an OK experience at Walser.

No regrets.

In three days ( 25th May ), my car will be one year old :d
It has almost 60k km on it and still very solid with no rattle in the interior parts.
One annoying rattle comping from the bottom of the car but dealer informed me it's normal while I see that it's not but I get used to it ( BUT will not stop to find that rattle source ) *refer to my last thread for more info regarding this rattle*

Overall, very happy with the car even it's the base model but loved it so much.

With all due respect, you did buy the wrong car! Boy racers should look elsewhere as the Max is a cruiser with a hint of sport. Consider your "huge loss" a learning experience and get what you want and then customize it with whatever you need to be satisfied.

The majority of us however love this car for what it is, a functional stylish mode of transportation that is still not so commonly seen on daily travels.
Let us know what you end up doing

I have had my 17 Platinum since February and so far I am enjoying it very much. The only two things I don't like are the inability to turn off the Intelligent Cruise and the very disappointing Bose sound system. The Bose sounded ok during the test drive but the more I listen to it the less I like it. I am not just sure if I want to spend the $$ to upgrade the speaker system - I'm not even sure that will help as I have no idea if the head unit is any good.

The only issue I have is the cool air does not see to come out of the flat part of the seat. At least not to the degree of the lumbar part of the seat, which gets pretty cool. I haven't had it back to the shop yet but I will raise the issue when I take it in for the first service.

There's a HUGE difference between a brand new 2017, and a 2016 with 3300 miles on it. Apples and Oranges in terms of pricing.
