Brake Warning light ?

My brake warning light came on today twice. Once when I was driving it from a signal light making a sharp accelerated left turn. It showed for a second and then went away. I checked my foot emergency brake to see if it was hanging and checked the brakes while moving, things were all normal. My wife later used the car and it went on for a second again. I have 16,400 miles on it.
Thoughts!

Check your brake fluid? See if it's low? May have a leak somewhere.

stikako is on this. Could be any of several things, but most likely the fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir has dropped to the 'add fluid' level.

If so, then grab a can of DOT-3 brake fluid from any auto parts store or convenience store, carefully wipe off the cap on the brake fluid reservoir and open it, and add fresh fluid until the level reaches the 'full' line.

There could be two causes for the brake fluid being low. The 'good' cause is that, as the brake parts gradually wore over the miles, it took more fluid to reach the parts that needed to be moved, and this fluid top-off will fix the problem. The 'not-so-good' cause is that you may have a brake fluid leak, in which case, action is required.

If you had the ABS Attenuator worked on (recall for replacement because attenuator leak was causing fires), it may be that the service tech did not get all six brake fluid lines running from the reservoir retightened completely. This happened to me.

If that is not the problem, you must have your service tech find the leak, as the brakes on this vehicle become very weak very quickly once the fluid level drops below the 'add fluid' line. As I found out last month as I rolled through a stop sign and into a six lane expressway.

I think you are right on the money with this problem. Will add fluid tomorrow morning after purchase. I will let you know of results.
Thanks

After adding some brake fluid and test riding it 3 times all seems normal.I think the indicator is too sensitive because the level was in between low and add.

Keep a close eye on it for the next while. Could also mean air in the system, or small leak if the level was a little low.

This somewhat quick reoccurance means you have a brake fluid leak. This normally means you will be squeezing out some brake fluid each time you press hard on the brake pedal. Fairly soon, this will manifest itself in the brake pedal getting lower and squishier, with corresponding loss of stopping ability. I suspect one of he six tubes feeding out of the fluid reservoir is not properly tightened. Since overtightening can damage these flimsy brake fluid tubes, I would recommend a trip to your service department in the near future. Should not be a difficult fix.
