Navigation Map Update
Navigation Map Update
I just got a letter from Nissan: "Your 2016 Nissan Maxima is ready for a map update". Yeah, I know. It was ready for a map update when I bought the car! The current maps are "13-14 Year". It says it's the "2017 map update", but does anybody know the actual years it's updated through? If 2016 came with 13-14, then maybe this 2017 update is only for 14-15. Not worth the money. But if the maps are current, it might be worth it. By the way the update lists for $129 and they are offering it for $109.
At least the car now displays the correct speed limits on the highways here in Utah, instead of the lower numbers from pre-December 2014.
The update process did take quite a while (20+ mins) - with multiple firmware updates, several card swaps, and at least one lengthy period where I was worried that it had locked up (it hadn't - was just really slow).

I too bought the upgrade and can confirm the maps say 16-17. It does take a long time to do the upgrade 20+ minutes. If fact the it takes so long that I got the "powering off to save battery warning" so had to push start button to second position to complete the upgrade. May be worth starting the car to avoid having the upgrade process shutting down and corrupting.

No...just keep quiet and tell us on this forum. You really don't need permission from anonymous people on this forum to bring this up with your dealer.
I did not mean it in that way smart ***. I meant as in have other people mentioned this complaining to their dealer with results. Either way I am not settling for it since I know the new maps are 16-17 with this update even if I have to contact Nissan directly to get this done. I wonder if other 2017 owners are aware of this and if its VERY possible they did load older data from the factory by accident.

You may or may not have much recourse from your Nissan dealer, as this disclaimer is in the Nissan Maxima Owner’s Manual.
Nissan reserves the right to change specifications, performance, design or component suppliers without notice and without obligation.
Good luck with your quest.
Yeah it would be nice if other 2017 owners chimed in what their new car came with. I just double checked again and it says 14-15. I might not even bother with the dealer and just call Nissan directly first to see if they can send the update.
This situation has been discussed several times here because it has been a point of contention since the 8th gen maxima was first released. My 2016 Platinum was assembled August 20, 2015, and the maps are from 2013 IIRC. And I found out here that my Maxima had pretty much the same maps as all other 2016 Maximas here.
I had much trouble getting updates on my 2009 Maxima, but, using my maps every time I use my car, and seeing that they are missing roads near me that I know were built in 2005, I am going to bite the bullet and fork over the $109 and upgrade.
I don't think anyone is going to get very far with Nissan paying for anything in this area. When I talked to them almost two years ago, they treated this sort of like replacing windshield wiper blades - something the customer should take care of on their own.

Geez it takes forever to get someone at Nissan on the line over the phone. I gave up and will try another time. But I might not have to. I went to the navigation update website and they have nothing available for the 2017 to update. Only the 2016. So I don't think the actual update will even be out for the 2017's until the 2018's hit soon. I could be wrong.
I checked today. The maps on my brand new '17 Platinum are 16-17. Anyone who buys a new one with older maps is being cheated, and should go back to the dealer for an exchange. If the dealer refuses, raise heck with Nissan corporate.
Do you know the build date for your Maxima? I want to compare with mine. I will definitely be bringing this up with my dealer now. Like I said. I wonder how many are getting screwed like me that just bought a new 2017.
For those trying to determine the build date of their Maxima, the month and year of assembly are on the placard attached inside the jamb of the driver's door. Those who want to know the exact assembly DAY need to look at the line of small numbers at the right bottom edge of the original window sticker that came with the car.

SD card files
Has anyone dumped the content of the SD cards anywhere? I have the SD card for the 2016 but I would like to compare it to the 2017 and 2018 models. I know they are set per SN but I would like to still compare them. If some one has a 2017 with Apple CarPlay or 2018 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto then I can set up a place to publicly dump the files that are on the SD cards if you are willing to copy them for us.
Also if anyone is looking for map updates for your Nissan here is where you can get them.
