You know I never see any of these new Maxima's on the road. I am not complaining and think its is great btw. I don't like driving what everyone else has. The car is fantastic and maybe a best kept secret yet! So I am wondering if its the price base price alone starts at near $33k and required premium fuel that keeps customers away? Or is Nissan dropping the ball not getting the word out enough with these cars? Combination? What do you guys think? We came from a 2015 Chevrolet Impala 2LTZ and those happened to be kinda rare on the road as well. At least I seen those some times though. Seeing a Maxima is like a Sasquatch sighting it seems around here. We are the only one in town that has one.

These 8th gen Maximas have been a little scarce on the road from day one (June 3rd, 2015). That was also the case with the 7th gen 2009, and I had the only 7th gen in town for many months. But eventually, the 7th gen began to show up more frequently. I think the same thing will eventually happen with the 8th gen, as the styling is definitely noticeable.
My wife is better at 'car spotting' than I am, and it seems that almost every time we go anywhere, she spots another one.
I feel one reason there are not more 8th gens on the road is that the MSRP of the basic model is clearly above $30K, and a better equipped model can list above $40K. No, we aren't actually paying the full amount, but folks that don't like to haggle price may just look at one of the many vehicles with a lower MSRP.
There is the added detail that many folks have never driven a CVT-powered vehicle, and hear/read every day that the CVT is a POS. The CVT is actually the most efficient tranny out there, and that is why it is now on such a high percentage of all new vehicles. I personally would not buy a vehicle unless it DID have a CVT; I have been that impressed with them.
Sales figures tell us that there are actually more 8th gen Maximas on the road than it seems. I think the total number of 8th gens on the road is now nearing 100K. I see them because there are 5 Nissan dealers within an hour of my home. If I were not surrounded by Nissan dealers, I would not expect to see many.
With the Maxima being a low-volume vehicle, It is not economical to run TV ads just for it. Nissan does frequently run ads that show several Nissan vehicles in one scene. I frequently see ads with the Maxima, Altima, Murano, Rogue, Z, etc together.
As many here have suggested over the years, it can be nice to NOT see your vehicle everywhere. Most folks like to feel they are just a little different than the average joe, especially in their vehicle choice.
I haven't seen many on the road, and I must say I'm glad. I'm so tired of seeing Camrys and Accords everywhere, it's good to be able to stand out from the crowd!
Hopefully Nissan will sell just enough that it does not lose interest in this car.

No premium fuel served to my Platinum ever. Now at 20,000 miles withnot a problem. No knocks, pings, just smooth power.
I too was initially put off at the pricing but soon saw I could get a better deal on this than a loaded Accord or Acura
Sales seem to indicate they are doing pretty good...Came back down to earth a little in June
Actually, the Maxima is doing very well as compared with other large cars. Maxima sales dropped 10% in June 2017 as compared with June 2016, but the large car category overall fell 29% in June 2017 compared with June 2016.
And Maxima sales year-to-date are actually up 2% from last year, while the large car market overall fell 31% year-to-date.
The rush to SUVs and hybrids and crossovers, etc, has been very dramatic, and may eventually be a real concern for the Maxima when it comes time to begin planning for the 9th gen 2023 Maxima in coming years. I would not be surprised if the 9th gen becomes the fist Maxima in over forty years to have power options other than normally aspirated.
I have been in the DFW area for 4 days on business and there are many of them roaming around, a lot of it has to do with Nissan selling so many of them to fleets (sticker on back windows give it away). Enterprise, National and Hertz has lots of them, and now they are doing away with the S and have more and more SV's and SL's in the fleet. My current rental is 17 SL from Hertz with a bad sunroof, at home in the LA area they are plentiful as well.
Funny you should mention rentals. We picked up a car yesterday and it turned out to be a Maxima S, 2017, from National.
It was fun to run the **** out of it as ours is still being babied until it hits 1,200 miles. The car has a lot of *****.
I see a few a week around the St. Louis area. I like having a car that you don't see all over the place, makes it feel a little special. Heck, my other car I haven't seen another one out on the road in the past two years....
I'm in Houston and see them daily. I have a 7th Gen and am considering an 8th Gen or a Q70L. My cousin just got an SL and I love the look and feel. I finally got the chance to start it myself and drive it and it's an amazing feeling. I still love my 7th Gen, but it's definitely a great car. I'm glad there aren't many on the road. My only concern is will they build a 9th Gen. I wonder what their breakeven number is...
Nissans saving grace is their rebates and current discounts. We were looking for a Camry in the $28-30K range and ruled the Maxima completely out due to its cost. Then I happened to look at a local dealers web site and noticed the SL priced at just under $39K with options was reduced to $30,250 so we bought one. And our experience is similar to many on here.
Its one hell of a car for $30K. I still cant believe the quality and features and power for the price. It is a better car in every way than a 2005 Acura TL we bought new for $33K and now its 12 years later and priced less. Better performance and better MPG and its a bigger, smoother ride as well. Totally amazing.
Just got back from a round trip from Hot Springs Village, AR, to Tyler, TX. Did not see another Max the whole trip. Had several cars start to pass and then slow down to check me out, jealous I guess.
Don't you love it?! Have a '16 Platinum w a sport spoiler. Depends on where you are I've noticed. In NJ- lots out there. MD, more appearing. FL, just a few. At this price point people can buy a low end BMW/Merc, etc. so we get to stand out and I love it.
I see 2-3 daily on I-35W on my way to work from home to Fort Worth. About 90 miles round trip. Just a few days ago a customer at my Subway pulled in his SL next to my SR and we discussed how great it feels bc it is a rarity at times and talked about the positive feedback we both have received on the car...
I like that I notice other drivers sort of checking my car out, but they sometimes tend to ride just to the side of the back of my car for a mile or so. Sort of gives me a 'hemmed in' feeling.
I saw an old guy walking past my car with his wife. They passed the car and went back and looked in the side window for a couple of minutes. He looked back a couple of items as he walked away. I've had a few guys stare at it as I drive past them, which I don't like, because I prefer to be anonymous.
I've been seeing more and more in my area, as a Nissan dealership just opened earlier this year just about a mile and a half from my house. As mention above about the Acura TL, I looked at them and wasn't impressed, other than the headlights, the car was unremarkable. When I saw the new Maxima, I stopped my search for cars and started looking for a white one. Found my pearl finished white one at a dealership online in the inventory. Called them, they prep'd the car for me to drive that evening, told the guy to work a deal, I showed up at the dealership, drove, did the deal and was out in less than an hour. Love the car, I now have 10K miles on it, other than the turning radius, I find nothing about the car I don't love. It's a great car, my 35th new car.

Like you, I love a tight turning radius. If I recall correctly, the radius on the 8th gen is not quite a foot more than the 7th gen. But both 7th and 8th gen Maximas have much tighter turning radisuses than the 6th gen, which left me strung out and very vulnerable in traffic on many occasions. I am on narrow back roads quite a bit, so there were many times with my 6th gen where I went well out of my way to find a place where that car could be turned around.
There are about 124k out there (USA) now.
I see a larger number of rental ones (S or SV) than privately owned vehicles.
And there are five Nissan dealerships within a 40 minute drive of my house.
I've seen only 1 other 8th Gen Maxima in my area. I live near a military base and have a Nissan Dealership in town. So far I'm the only one in my area with an 8th Gen SR Midnight ED. Just had 20 percent tint pit on and am having my muffler deleted in 2 weeks. So I should be the only one for a while.

Man, Gun metallic looks great with the midnight package. I guess I'm going to have to blackout things on my S! Please make videos after you delete the muffler(s). I'm contemplating making my exhaust a little louder, but as tasteful as possible.
In the Chicagoland area, we traverse I 294 near O'hare and see at least 1 or 2 per day. As pointed out earlier 90% are rental cars as evidenced by the bar code stickers on the rear and side windows.
Conversely, We recently returned from a 5,000 mile road trip to NM, TX AZ UT. CO, SD and saw maybe 5 Maximas in the wild total over 2 weeks.
I'm seeing more and more of them lately here on Long Island. I'm with the author of this thread in that I don't like driving what everyone else drives. But I understand that Maximas have been popular for many years, and there's consolation that there will always be parts and support for these vehicles.
I don't see tons... but then again there were 3 of us lined up at a stop light the other day.
I have gotten more complements and second looks in this car than I ever got in my 3.5 Altimas. Then again the SR midnight in white is striking... if a bit stormtrooper ish.
I just got my first inspection sticker at the local garage I've been going to for years and the guy I always deal with told me that my car was the first 8th gen Maxima that he's seen come in for a sticker. He does a very high volume business since he's located on an "auto mile", so I thought that was an interesting data point.
This is just an after thought from my post earlier but if anyone is interested, I just had my car detailed the other day using synthetic wax and as you can see from the before and after pics the difference is amazing.
For those who were asking to post a video about what my Maxima sounds like with the muffler deleted. Stock tips, stock exhaust, only the muffler has been deleted. Sounds amazing.

Traded in my wife's Mercedes GLA 250. Very rare car. Beautiful too, but German cars make everything an option. We had blind spot monitoring but no rear back up sensors as one example. The Nav and upgraded radio sucked. The seats weren't real leather and my back would sweat in warm weather.
My wife's new red Platinum is a stunner and the beige interior is certainly in the minority.

Right after windows tinted.
Looks great. Put that rear spiiler from spoiler and wing King for final touch. See my thread for easy install.
