Is there a ceiling cover in the trunk?

Is there supposed to be a cover for the roof of the trunk?
I was loading a lot of stuff into the trunk last weekend and noticed that there was no felt cover for the 'ceiling' of the trunk, and so there were some exposed wires for the rear speakers and such. Everything was neatly tied up so there isn't anything hanging loose to get snagged on, but I wasn't sure if it was something that got lost or if there was never supposed to be something there.

Thanks,
Arthur

My trunk lid has a felt cover but the back (roof) portion of the trunk does not. Looks just as you described with the exposed speakers, etc.

Nope. All the ones I've seen are "exposed" like you described. Made me a little "nervous" as well.

I like "using" quotation marks.

Nope, there isn't one, and it it really doesnt buy you anything anyway. You cant even see that area unless you bend down and look at it.

Putting a cover over the rear speakers would also limit the sound quality as it uses the trunk for part of the Bass reflex

I don't think it's about looks it's a concern that putting something in that is tall will snag the wires or hit components. The trunk in general is kind of disappointing- it just has covers over the same ole U brackets and torsion spring that the Altima etc use. Would have liked to see something a little better that didn't take up so much trunk space in this car.

Could be a cost cutting thing and my 7th gen has a full trunk lid felt covering on the inside, front to back side to side.

I was surprised to see that our new 2020 Platinum does not have the trunk ceiling cover. I too thought that it would expose the speakers and wiring to potential damage from items in the trunk. I was also surprised that it had no fuel door lock. It opens and closes as designed, with a push on the fuel door, but there is no fuel door locking mechanism. Maybe it's also missing on the 2020's. Does yours have a lock?

Thanks!

The fuel door does lock actually, when the car door locks are locked.

I disagree about the trunk size. This is one of the few cars with a more rectangular area beneath the trunk lid. Some smaller suitcases can be loaded standing up and the lid will close. I have hauled lots of odd-sized long stuff that goes in just fine providing the rear seatbacks are lowered.
The trim you are missing on the top is left off so the speakers can use the trunk cavity for base resonance. A few zip ties can solve any hanging wires you might be concerned about. (My wires on the Bose system are not hanging down)

Thanks for your reply. We also assumed that it would lock when the doors are locked. Our 2009 Maxima that was traded in for the 2020 had the same fuel door locking feature. When the 2020 needed its first fill-up, we couldn’t believe that the fuel door would not lock when all the doors were locked. The parts required to make it lock and unlock using the remote or the door handle button are not installed. There is a plug blocking the opening where the locking latch should be mounted in the fuel cavity. I don’t know if ours is the only car missing the lock. I was thinking that it may also be a problem with other 2020's. Is your Maxima a 2020?

Thanks!

Thanks for replying! Your SR and my Platinum are both without a lock. So now I am really curious. Is this something that all of the 2020’s are missing, or only some?

Mine does not, while my old Hyundai Azera does. Kind wish this one had it too, for peace of mind that I don’t rip a wire when loading/unloading the trunk. Guess they had to cut corners somewhere

My 2019 Platinum has the fuel filler door locking feature. Shocked they would eliminate it for 2020. What does the 2020 owners manual say about the feature?

I just looked up the 2020 manual and there is no mention of a locking fuel door. All it says is to open the fuel door push on the side of the door.

Thanks. That is disappointing! I think back to my earlier 2010 Max Premium and it had features like a rear armrest radio and heating controls, full auto up and down rear side windows. Things all gone from the 2016-2020 Maximas and de-contenting they hoped you would not notice. Now the locking fuel door is gone!

More like a redistribution of features I would say. Probably didn’t have all the safety systems they do now... lane assist, FEB, ICC, Apple & android play, etc. That is a bummer though, you would think the locking gas lid didn’t cost that much to produce. If someone pours sugar in your tank, be sure to mail Nissan the bill

Thank you both for your replies! I visited an out of town Nissan dealer last week. There were six new 2020 Maximas outside on the lot. All of the doors on all of them were locked. Each fuel door lid opened with a push on the lid. I think the evidence is suggesting that all 2020 Maximas may be missing the lock. If this is the case, I too am shocked that Nissan would make a decision like that.

Sort of related - 2019 Pathfinders do not have a lock either.

They've been de-featuring for years I suppose, cuz my '13 Max Premium doesn't have those things your '10 had.....hmmmm.

Getting your gas tank sugared would certainly be a major expense! A stolen tank of gas could also leave a driver stranded and in a vulnerable situation. A thief stealing your gas would not likely be handling gasoline carefully or safely. The stolen gasoline could also be destined for purposes other than running a car or a lawn mower. In terms of safety alone, having a secured fuel tank on a car is a no-brainer. Yet, Nissan has removed the locking fuel door feature on $43K Maximas?

If they wanted the gasoline bad enough a locking lid will not stop them. A screwdriver can easily pop it open if its locked.
