2018 Maxima
#4
Nissan could have called the 2018 the '8 1/2' gen and made meaningful changes, but I suspect that is not happening, which means there will not be much 'hoopla' associated with the release. We will simply see cars being unloaded off trucks at our dealers, and when we look at the window sticker, it will say '2018 Nissan Maxima'.
With Nissan's new 'longer run' of each generation, I do not expect to see the 9th gen Maxima before the 2023 model year, so my hope is that there will be an 8 1/2 gen for either the 2019 or 2020 model.
I still hold the hope that we will eventually see a NISMO Maxima, but I'm not holding my breath. The 2020 Maxima will be the fortieth model year, and would be a perfect time for Nissan to do something special. We will just have to wait and see. If they did decide to have a NISMO Maxima, I would hope one color option would be the burnt orange which was available on the early 1970s Z cars. That color was also available during the month of July 2004 on the 6th gen Maxima.
But with the Maxima moving to flagship status and a lower volume production car back around 2002, that somewhat limits Nissan's ability to make lots of changes, except with each new generation.

Sometimes, when there are very few mechanical changes to the Maxima, Nissan will drop a color that is not selling well and add a new color. But I don't even see that big a change happening with the '18.
