2017 Test Drive
2017 Test Drive
Hello fellows, been a long time since I have been here. I am looking at a new can and the Maxima is really attractive with all of the incentives. My first choice is the Q50, but A base 2.0 will be more than a fully loaded Max.
Here is my question: I went and test drove a new SR and loved the car inside and out, however, there was a crazy vibration/ bouncy feeling from 40mph on up. It was bad enough that went back to get another SR and send that one to service. Well, the next one did the exact same thing......CVT? Is this normal? It was bizarre. Any ideas...? I sure could not live with what I just experienced.
Thanks,
Bill

Wild *****,
The "crazy vibration/"bouncy feeling" is NOT NORMAL. Were you conducting the test drive on a very poor section of the highway/interstate? With the stiffer suspension of the SR, perhaps the rough pavement may have caused road undulations/vibrations in both of the SR's you test drove. If the road wasn't the contributor/cause, then one may speculate the car's have a mechanical issue. My SR is nearly 15 months old (11,800 miles) and has exhibited no such behavior...ever..., even on poor/bad roads.

When drove off the dealership lot it felt very stiff( I test drove my particular car a week before buying it, so I kinda couldn’t remember the exact experience when tested) so I kinda thought it was supposed to be like that. But then I looked into PSI screen my wheels were pumped between 45-48 psi.Turns out dealerships/factories pump them to the Max. So maybe this is what you have experienced.
If you meany bouncy from the transmission, then it's probably the torque converter and my SL does it too. I can't drive at a steady speed of 30-60km/h as the torque converter continuously locks and unlocks and the revs just bounce up and down.
It was like a constant shudder, it was not in the steering wheel at all, I threw it into N a few time so see if it would subside, no luck. Me, the salesman and my son all felt it very strongly....Salesman tried to attribute it to the tires having flat spots.....maybe for the first mile or so, but 7 miles in...I doubt that and on 2 cars in a row
Your car is screwed up and should go back to the dealer

I figured I would report back in after a couple of test drives today. I finally got out to test drive a 2017 Q50 3.0TT AWD with 6000 miles on it. The car drove as smooth as butter. Doors had a very heavy thud when you closed them. The steering by wire did not really bother me at all, kind of liked it. Now the one thing that blows my mind were the seats.....48K sticker price and the damn car has plastic seats. You have got to me kidding me. I drove an hour and 15 minutes to drive this car. The Leatherette is disgusting and pretty much a deal breaker on this car. The seating position in the front was cramped, I was kind of wedged in there and I am not a big guy. 5 ft 8 about 200. The trunk is very small. Power is adequate, but not what I would like in a 48K car. If not for the AWD I think the Max would be just as fast or even a bit quicker. Power delivery is much smoother than the VQ, it is a nice motor...Just pushing 4000 lbs around kind of kills it. I was not overly impressed with the Infiniti experience as a potential customer........And actually left because I was tired of the sales games they play to get you to spend more time at the dealer. I hate games. Leave me sitting in the office waiting for the MGR to come meet me after I told him I was not buying the car today........That was not happening.
Came home and headed to the Nissan dealer and drove 2 SR'S again. Both vibrated like crazy. They are blaming flat spots on the tires. Now my first car we drove approx 20 miles......and they never came out....Service dept said it was too cold for the flat spots to come out...38 degrees.....I laughed and called Bull****. But any way.....SOOOOOO much more value for the Money....seats are fantastic, leather is great, heated cooled...hot damn. Now I am going to drive a WRX and a new Camry V6. Maxima is a phenomenal car....they are going to send it to service and see if maybe it is something else. The car does drive very large if that makes sense and visibility out the back is not the best. So many goodies in this car at a fabulous price point. No plastic seats. I felt like I was back in my DADs Grand Torino Wagon in the Q with the plastic seats....SAD SAD SAD .

Wow wild *****,
I just can't believe every SR you've driven has had the same problem. Have you tried a differ dealer in a different city. There must be something going on at this one. Would you consider test driving a platinum instead

Not yet, & I have not driven a Platimum.
I drove an SR for two weeks while my Platinum was in the body shop, and, other than a VERY slightly stiffer ride than my Platinum, that SR rode very smoothly. It tracked slightly better than my Platinum, but that was to be expected.
There has to be something going on at your dealer. I have not seen any SR owners here describe the problem you are having. I love my Platinum, and if a plane landed on it tomorrow and crushed it, I would be right back at the dealer ordering exactly the same car again. Please test a platinum (and check out the wonderful bird's eye all-around view), and know that, other than a VERY slightly firmer ride, the SR should ride exactly the same way. If your heart is set on an SR, please try another dealer. It is worth the effort.

I stand corrected! I wish that was available when I bought my 2016 SR. The only check mark not ticked by getting the SR was memory seats. I see this midnight edition has that too!
