Need Help with Winter Tires

I'm a complete noob when it comes to this. I'm trying to find some winter tires. Everyones been telling me to go with 225/55/R17. What do you guys think? & what brand of tires should I get & what speed rating should I be looking out for?
I live in Toronto & so I'm trying not to drop a lot of money on them since it'll only be for 2-3 months out of the year.
Every little bit of information helps! Thanks

Hard for "us" on this forum to compete with "everyone", as they have us outnumbered.

You have left out a few details that complicate "us' giving you a useful answer, such as year, make and model of your car. What size wheel and tire combo, and speed rating are on the car now? Are you planning on buying 2 or 4 snow tires? Are you buying extra wheels to mount the snow tires? Do you like puppies? Just kidding about the puppies.

I would look at these sites, and gain information from within.

EXIA, how many times are you going to ask about winter tires?

I don't know why you keep asking the same question...3 times in 3 separate posts.
