I know lightonthehill has posted about how this happened to him and his dealer addressed. Anyone else experience this?

Experienced? No, but I've heard of this happening with several brands of cars

 

Yep, is happening with almost every brand of car with large sunroof. Fortunately, this is not something that happens every day. I did have a windshield that cracked from side to side on my '09 Premium Maxima during sharp temperature change, but my only problem with a sunroof was one of the metal parts involved in opening and closing on my '16 Platinum got crunched during closing and was not replacable, so Nissan replaced the entire panoramic sunroof, as a cost of several thousand bucks to Nissan.

The only other problem I ever had with Maxima sunroofs was the water drainage tube was crimped during car assembly on my 2004 Maxima, resulting in water running down into the driver side wheelwell, under the floor mat and carpeting, and starting to rust. I caught the problem and eliminated the rust. I found the crimp in the drainage tube via running a nylon fishing line down the drain and determining the location of the crimp, which dealer then fixed in less than an hour.

 

Exploding sun roofs have never been mentioned on the 8th Gen Forum.

Rattles and problems opening and closing... yes they have been mentioned.

 

On Friday September 23 2022, at 7:45 pm I was in my 2017 Nissan maxima with my wife and coworker traveling at 80 mph when all of a sudden it sounded like a freaking cannon going off. I new it wasn't a tire because the inside sun shade was moving up and down. I pulled of the hwy and got out of my maxima and saw a hole the size of basketball in the front sunroof glass. But what really caught my attention besides the rest of the front sunroof was shattered but still intact was that the glass around the hole was bowed up an angle not down in the car but out.
