Buying 2017 Maxima
Buying 2017 Maxima
Been researching this vehicle for a while and I’m ready to pull the the trigger on a leftover 2017 SL. Dealer is offering $5000 off plus zero percent for 72 months. I’m a VPP member but the dealer is not offering me anything under this program. So I’m hoping to get something from that program.
I’m from Canada. There are a few of these vehicles around. Wish me luck!!

0% for 72 months is (roughly) equivalent to 10% off the final sales price, assuming 3% annual inflation. So if MSRP is 37000 for SL, your deal is equivalent to paying 32000*.9 = 28800 in cash, slightly below 80% MSRP. It's not a particularly great deal at this point, it's just ok.
I’m going to another dealer tomorrow. The dealers where I live do not have any 2018 models in stock. I do like the car. Just getting the right deal is always the toughest part. Any Canadians out there that recently purchased a left over 2017 SL.
Thanks
Thanks
Like they say, hope in one hole and poop in another and see which fills up faster. Knowing Nissan, 2019 will add more gadgetry to the already overwhelmed cockpit but nothing to the drive ability of the car. Look, I love Maximas, on my 6th now but where I started and where the car is now is worlds apart and not all for the better. The car now has less tactile road feel than say my old 94 with manual tranny. The fun of a Maxima WAS thrashing a 4 door sedan like a coupe. Now, it's acoustic glass, zero gravity seats and more gizmos than a NASA wet dream. Nice to drive but not the experience something called 4DSC would bring to mind. Expect the 9th Gen to cater to the crowds not the enthusiast.

Getting back to the original post... Canadian dealers generally do not offer the deep discounts that American dealers do. The Max is made in America and the Canadian dollar has been fluctuating between $.75 - $82 of the American buck for about a year. So the difference in the dollars eats up some of the America discounts in Canada. So... your deal is pretty decent.
Now... I would think that the majority of the Maxima owners, not necessarily Maxima.org owners, are quite happy with the transition of the Maxima through its generations. Nissan, like all car companies, is attempting to maximize profits on virtually every model. The current platform is their attempt to maximize profit. My 7th gen Max was my first car ever that I owned that was an automatic transmission. This could be why I think the CVT kills the traditional tranny. Yet, now in my fifties, I would never go back to a manul transmission (which I did have in my 6th gen Maxima). I as well owned a '90 240sx and also an '94 300ZX turbo, which where both a blast to drive (I would have preferred the 300 horsepower in the 240), but I am not going back. I love my '17 SL when in Sport mode, and wouldn't want a manual transmission again unless in something like a GTR. Essentially Nissan knows the target market for the Maxima and is acting accordingly.

I spoke with another dealer today and they could not match or beat the price I received from the dealer yesterday. So it does appear to be a good price. The discounts in Canada are not near as good as the US. Not from what I’ve been reading. So to get $5000 off and zero financing I think is a pretty good deal.
I test drove a 2018 Camry XSE today. Beautiful car but no discounts and the finance rate is not great.
