If we take a look at Nissan current lineup, all there gasoline powered cars have been redesigned (Versa, Sentra and Altima) .
There SUV's, New Rogue will be introduced later this year. That leaves the Pathfinder and Murano - Pathfinder cabin is way out dated.
Nissan Leaf has been redesigned , 370Z will see a new 400Z later this year. As for trucks New Frontier later this year. So except for the
Maxima , Murano and Pathfinder are all due for redesign. The question is how much development dollars will they spend and to what platform.
We all know there is a new all Electric crossover in the works called Ariya - will that replace the Maxima ? I hope not.
I recently took a Nissan survey about what I want in a future vehicle - the survey was addressed to me as a current Maxima owner. There
were plenty questions related to SUV's which I indicated I had no interest to drive. Wonder how that will play or have played in there thinking.
As many of you have said in these forums if Nissan has not started work on redesign for the Maxima by now we most likely won't see one.
Even though we have limited our travel due to the virus we still get out and drive some with the Maxima and can say I still enjoy the ride and the interior view.
Lets just hope Nissan decides to keep the Maxima !!
Love my 2019 Maxima Platinum reserve. Get lots of compliments on how beautiful a car it is. Will look at the 21 Acura TLX as I don't believe the Maxima will survive, and I'm not ready for an SUV. The TLX is 2 inches longer and has more tech. Will have to test drive to make a true comparison. From what I've seen, it very nice. They got rid of the annoying dual screen infotainment system also.

Does this mean you will get rid of your 19 Max after only two years?
As for the TLX, what is a 2020 price for a one comparable to an SV/SL Max?
Pricing for the 21 is not officially out yet. From what I've read the top of the line TLX will be in the $46,000 range which is a few thousand more than I paid for my Maxima.
I will trade in my current Maxima as it is paid and has very low milage (10,000 miles thus far. Purchased January2019).

Don't be 1st to get the TLX. It always takes a year or so to be sure the car is sorted out. Meanwhile, you drive one of the best available examples of a car that looks great moving or sitting. I'm not in the market till 2022 so the TLX ( if I go that route) should be had for a better deal.

You'll be extremely happy making the jump to Acura. I made the switch to Honda in general with a 2007 Honda Civic coupe and didn't spend a dime in repairs. I drove that car and put tons of miles on it. I now have a 2013 Acura TL that I purchased 3 years ago and haven't had any issues just like the Honda Civic. All I change is the oil and transmission fluid. My fiance's 2008 Nissan Maxima SE that is well maintained continues to have issues with the front end suspension. The car was purchased brand new in cash by her grandfather who passed it down to her when he passed away. My 2013 Acura TL with Technology Package. I'll upgrade to the TLX Type S once its in mid cycle refresh and is 4 years old. I never buy new cause depreciation on cars is unbelievable.

Question if you love your Maxima so much why haven't you looked at what Infiniti has to offer before they start the whole Nissan Plus movement? I'm pretty sure you can get an Infiniti Red Sport 400 at a steal of a price.

I have, and like the Q50, but it is too small. Very tight drivers side fit for me.

Understandable. Good thing you are looking at the second gen TLX, the cabin in the generation prior is tight. I had a 2019 Acura TLX loaner and it was cramped interior wise. The second gen TLX should be as big as my 2013 Acura TL which is very spacious inside. Here's a pic of the 2019 Acura TLX Sh-AWD with Technology I had as a loaner. Fun car but too small inside. I'm only 5'9" and look how tight the car was for me.

I really like the TL and was disappointed with the first gen TLX. The TL was a beautiful car and lots of room. But, too many buttons on the infotainment stack. I am 6' 4" and had no room with the seat all the way back. I don't care about rear seat space as I rarely have anyone in the back seat. The Max is a bit narrow, but I'm a slim guy (195lbs) and the cockpit theme is supposed to fit snug I guess....😂

Lol Oh trust I'm a stocky guy so I need all my space. Hopefully Nissan doesn't discontinue the Maxima. It's a legendary name. I had a 1997 that got me to where I am. Dependable car. As for the TL I love my car! But I agree the buttons do get crazy at times but after several years I got the hang of it. My front interior is very spacious. Despite all the buttons the infotainment system has been very reliable and I haven't had any issues. I only updated the Navigation once and barely use it.
Nissan should bring back the SE-R name like Toyota is doing TRD with the current Camry and Avalon. Imagine them using VR30DDTT or a tuned KR20DDET in the Maxima and Altima. That would be smart move considering they are turning Infiniti into Nissan Plus.

New neighbors moved into my neighborhood a few weeks ago, just over a block from my home. I dropped by their home last night to go over the horse-choking 120 page covenants used by our HOA. The new guy drives a BMW SUV, which many folks in our neighborhood drive. But his missus drives a silver 2016 Maxima Platinum. I'm trying to talk about the covenants, but she wants to know where I got my black rear bumper diffuser with chrome bar, and where I got the underneath puddle lights on the sides of my car. She even noticed the wheel well trim guards and the quarter paneling black hard rubber trim. I never even glanced at the guy's BMW. I think I already know which of those two folks I will be most likely to chat with. Her hubby won't be mind. No man is concerned when a gimpy geezer that looks like Methuselah speaks with his wife. Even if that sad old geezer does drive a car that impresses her.
As for the plans Nissan has going forward, one thing that article made very clear to me - If we do have another generation of the Maxima, it will be electrically powered. I can deal with that.

"ConclusionThe 2019 Nissan Maxima is a better car, but this refresh might also be the last one in a long history of 4-door sports cars. It’s easy to imagine the run culminating with a 2021 Maxima 40th Anniversary Edition." https://www.jdpower.com/cars/expert-...-Nissan-Maxima
I have been hoping for years there would be a special 40th Anniversary edition. I remember the 20th Anniversary edition looking so good with that body kit and chrome dipped wheels. But let's hope this is something fierce!
I can see Nissan maybe doing a throwback color scheme and rims for the 40th anniversary edition emulating the first gen Maxima. Either that or they go all in on the "4DSC" and make it look super sporty with red seats and caliper covers. Sorta like the 370z 40th anniversary edition. Maybe a tweak to suspension but I wouldn't hold my breath.
I’m Still praying for a full EV Maxima! Now that they got the Ariya, maybe The Max can be the first large sedan in their lineup with that technology. We all know how similar the Max & Murano are, seems like they can mix and match parts easily if they wish.
Tesla proved that EV sedans can sell well, And there isn’t much competition in that segment so Nissan should go for it. Another advantage, it will lose the CVT (which I like, but sadly most consumers don’t give it a chance). If they still call the Maxima their “Flagship”, they should seriously consider it.

I agree, my only concern would be that automaker's seem to want to start new model names for EV models (makes sense marketing-wise. Don't want customers that want an EV to think the car is continuing as an ICE and vice versa) So it may very well be that the Maxima lineage continues on but under another model name.
That being said, I really like the name Maxima lol
This is glorious news. I have lain in bed at night for almost a year in total despair that there would never be another Maxima. I had decided to search national Nissan dealership inventories for a 2020 sunset drift Platinum with no real success. Many Nissan dealers do a miserable job of keeping their online inventory updated.
I don't ask much. If they slap the letters M A X I M A on the rear, they pretty much have me sold. I had reached the point I was afraid I would end a forty-some year career of owning nothing but Datsun/Nissan products, as well as a 36 year stretch owning nothing but Maximas by owning some brand with which I had no affiliation or interest. I don't care if the 2021 Maxima is just a 2020 Maxima changed to EV. Well, I would expect to see a few very special features to distinguish this as the fortieth anniversary edition. I am so absolutely excited that there will be a 2021 Maxima. The flagship lives!
COVID may think it owns the world, but it can't keep me from being elated that there will be a 2021 Fortieth anniversary Maxima.
Thanks to those here who posted this great news! Much appreciated!

I missed that Platinum was available in orange for 2020.
They whacked red from Reserve... down to white/black/blue/grey... (although I like Gun Metallic, it looks terrible on the Maxima).
lindros2 - pearlescent white, brilliant silver and sunset drift (burnt orange) were the only colors I would even consider for the 8th gen Maxima. My last black car was a 1949 Studebaker, and there was no air conditioning back then. Dark colors were like an oven in pre-AC days. Gun metallic sort of looks like a silver Maxima that has not been washed.
I thought we would be hearing a little more about the 2021 40th anniversary Maxima by now. Nissan is very good about keeping things secret. I thought they might have an interest in drawing a little more public attention to the 40th anniversary Maxima, but evidently not.
The way I understood it was sometime in August we would hear more on the 2021 Maxima 40th Anniversary Edition.

Still seems like its just speculation but hopefully the Maxima lives on. Either as a new gen, a trim of the new electric flagship, or as a full electric new model!

It is about time for a redesign as the current iteration is 5 years old. Acura has my interest peaked at the new TLX coming out later this year with an S sport model rumored to have 350hp. I am also looking at the Genesis G80 for a bit more room. Hopefully it is a redesign vs color scheme..
I can't see any reason they bring back the maxima unfortunately. Hopefully they'll give us some kind of performance sedan though. Maybe a high performance sentra or altima, something more than what's offered currently. I know the new z is coming, but we can't all afford something like that

Huh? Doesn't the Z start around the same price as the Maxima?
Sorry to hear this but certainly not surprised. Meanwhile enjoy your cars and start looking for another great car. I have mine for 18 more months and by then will be ready for something else.

If you can hold on for a couple years, seems like the Maxima could morph into in the IMs
