I don't want the CVT, but I definitely want FWD in snowland Chicagoland. Drove RWD sedans here in the winter, no, thanks. Let's keep in mind the Max is a family sedan, sporty or not, not a race car.

I roam the net searching for info on the latest Maxima, but find a jambalaya of mixed vehicles, and articles that mix in data/opinions of the 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 Maximas together, written by a 12 year old that just dropped down from Tash Kent, Mongolia for the weekend. Or maybe he was raised in Ulan Bator. It is hard to tell. But to have an article spending half its time on a fairly standard recent Maxima very closely related to the 2016 Maxima interspersed with all kinds of data supposedly covering a totally electric Maxima, which it refers to sometimes as the 2021 Maxima, at other times as the 2022 Maxima, and once as the 2023 Maxima, is rather meaningless, even if it had been written in good English, which it absolutely is not.
Of course these articles are not written by Nissan, and exist primarily because Nissan hasn't told us what they are doing.
I feel Nissan has dropped the ball. Several years back (2017), we were promised an exciting, groundbreaking new Maxima in just a few years. And here we are years later, and nobody seems absolutely sure what is going on with the Maxima. I felt all along this was a wonderful opportunity for Nissan to take their flagship Maxima to a higher level, dropping occasional tidbits telling of new exciting things to look for on the very new Maxima. That opportunity still exists, but it will not be there forever. Time passes, and people move on. For instance, I am an absolute NUT about Maximas, and will buy almost anything with MAXIMA written on the back. But I have begun glancing at other brands. And that hurts my heart.
I agree. We all thought by now there would be information on the Nissan Maxima 40th anniversary Edition.
Just to show you how I think Nissan is disjointed. They have announced the pricing for the 2021 Rogue for Canada but not the
USA over two weeks ago. Announced USA pricing for the 2021 Titan and the GT-R. Also will unveil the Z-Car Sept 15. If what we have
read that Nissan is bleeding money then why are they still going to announce a new Z-Car and not a new redesign of Maxima? How many
Z-Cars will they sell. Now I agree the Z is well overdue for a redesign but how many customers have you lost ? Anyway very very sad what
is going on with Nissan, you have to wonder will they survive. Over the past week I have read many articles that lets you believe they are floundering,
bleeding money. The trial for one of the top execs (Kelly) starts soon. Nissan is being sued by Japan government for incorrect tax payments. Lots of
in house fighting over Nissan direction. One article had suggested that Nissan was being sold to Honda which Honda wants no part of Nissan.
These are troubled times for Nissan.
Last week I was talking to my salesmen at the dealer i been doing business with for the past 12 yrs and he mentioned they haven't received any new 2020
Maxima's for several month's. They only have 4 remaining 2020's on the lot. Seems to be the same at other Nissan dealers. Other Nissan Cars , SUV keep on rolling
in. He also said sales have picked up some but no where near pre-pandemic.
One can only guess what is going on with Nissan ?
I still have about a year remaining on my lease hoping there will be a 2021 Maxima around for next lease. I have even told myself that there doesn't have to be
much change to the 2020 model for me to lease a 2021.
The problem with the Maxima is they made the Altima too much a like. No one's gonna dump 40k on a Maxima when they can get an Altima fully loaded for half the price. Also it appears Hyundai has taken Nissan's spot next to Toyota and Honda. Sad times for Nissan indeed but they did it to themselves when they merged with Renault. When your lease is up I think you should look at the 2021 Acura TLX, it's a beautiful car and has plenty of power.

First I don't agree that the Altima can replace the Maxima. My wife drives a 2019 Altima 2.5 Platinum.
It comes nowhere near the Maxima in any area of performance, comfort and looks.

Second - don't like the design of the Acura TLX
You know the Altima had the 3.5 V6 also. The newer years of the Altima they replaced it for a turbo charged 4 cylinder.
The new tlx is nice, but I don't think Acura will discount that car the way the maximas were/are discounted. I mean who here didn't have a large discount on their maxima?
I also am curious about the 21 TLX. I hear although it is 3 inches longer and a few inches wider, the cabin space is the same as the previous generation. That could be dealbreaker for me as I found the TLX a bit too cramped for my comfort level. I'll have the get inside one to see. Also considering the Genesis G80. Sad that the Maxima appears to be at the end of its run. I've owned an 09, 16, and 19, and have loved them all.

My Fiance's 08 Maxima is still running strong. I had a 97 Maxima and it was extremely reliable. I moved on from the Maxima to a 2013 Acura TL Technology Package. I almost got another Maxima of the same year (2013) but my Fiance said no. I've been happy with the Acura it's as reliable as my 97 Maxima. I always check up on the Maxima Org hoping one day they'll come out with a AWD Maxima with a turbo charged engine but sadly it seems Nissan doesn't care about the Maxima. The New TLX might be my next upgrade once the TL is paid off.

sadly, if they go turbo it’s gonna be a turbo 4, maybe with AWD but who knows. I don’t think it’s a matter of Nissan not caring, they’re just in shambles right now and they have way more product lines then they know what to do with. Maxima would have been the perfect car to go full electric with... but I don’t see that happening either. it may just be a brand that has run its course. Too bad because it’s still one of the finest sedans one can get without the premium price tag
No real changes. More cosmetic than anything else. More like a swan song if you ask me.
Exactly at least add the 2.0 VC turbo or the 3.0t with AWD.
I rather they put more performance into a vehicle rather than cosmetic mods. It's like the Anniversary Edition of the 5G Maxima which added some horsepower over the other 2001 Maxima trims.

I don't get it, were people expecting them to launch a new generation Maxima with the 40th Anniversary Edition? It's an anniversary edition for a low volume seller. The most they would have done was maybe some suspension changes and a special color but there was no way they were ever going to add a new engine or change the exterior dramatically.
It's a bummer but any real changes will be implemented next gen or, more likely, in the electric successor to the Maxima.

Yes people were expecting a new redesign because its been 5 years already. Its usually 5 year cycles and 3 for the future models now.

That is correct, 5 years is long enough. What is shown in the pictures above is basically 2016-2020 with a few tweaks. I too was expecting much more than this.
Like others here, I have been waiting for several years for some hint of the future of the Maxima. Some clue that the next generation would be very special. Even a tiny thread that might be construed to mean the Maxima was not being abolished.
But all I am hearing is 'here is another variation of the 2016 Maxima, available in only one color.' et cetera, et cetera.
I dearly love my Maximas, but that anniversary edition for me is very close to hearing crickets (nothing). Nissan is very good at one thing - - - breaking my heart.
I understand Nissan's precarious financial situation, but I do want honesty. If Nissan is sure there will not be another generation of the Maxima, please tell us. If they are still looking at the possibility of an electrically powered Maxima in two or three years, please tell us so I can wait. Nissan has been so secretive about future plans for so many years they no longer know how to be open and honest with the public. That bothers me.
I get no where close to that. My average is 17.3, I work about a mile or so from my house and I rarely go on trips. Do you think that is part of my poor numbers?
So seems like Nissan announced that the 8th gen is ending with no 9th gen in sight yet. “Maxima is one of the most storied nameplates for Nissan in North America. Today we announced to our employees, suppliers and dealers that the current generation Maxima will end production in the middle of 2023.”
Maxima production will end mid-2023 but they hinted that the Maxima might come back as an EV in the future or at least have a 9th gen... “stay tuned for future Nissan Maxima news as we empower journeys through exciting vehicles and tech innovation.” which makes sense as it is the flagship sedan for the company and EVs are trending to be the future of cars.
It's tough to be a sports sedan with front wheel drive. I enjoy our 2017 but can understand the change, especially as the Altima continues to grow in size. If you think about it, both the Sentra and Altima look more and more like the Maxima. I'm sure it's helped their sales.
The Maxima needs to evolve and regain an identity. I like the idea of an EV sports sedan.
Any word on special trim packages for the last year? My wife is wanting to order a 2022, but I'm inclined to wait to see what the last year will offer on their way out. She is still driving her 2013 we bought new. That is my favorite gen. Love the rear end of it. Sexy in my opinion.
Anyone with a dealer contact that can confirm EV Max in 2025? The article seems a little more substantial than just a typical rumor article. Timeline seems plausible, especially if they do a concept reveal later this year followed with a MY 2025 release.
I have read the same article and spoke with the Salesmen from the dealer I been leasing Maxima's for the past 15yrs.
His reply to me was we know nothing of any new plans for a replacement Maxima. Plus the way Nissan has been going lately
I wouldn't believe the timeline. Everything new from Nissan is always late to market.
FYI : Currently leasing 2021 Nissan Maxima Platinum
