Missing SD Card

Hi All, newbie here....
I know many features do not work without the SD card, dealership has one on order for me, but does not having the SD card make the talk button non operable? Right now when I press the talk button for voice recognition nothing happens. I just need to know if this will be fixed once the SD card arrives or if this is a separate issue...

One question?

Once you got the card, did everything work?

Yes, once the correct SD was inserted everything worked as it should. I could not find complete information anywhere as to what functions the SD card were responsible for. Nissian couldn't even help me because once they heard SD they transfer you over to the Maps department who of course only knew answers about guidance systems and not any push to talk commands. So in case anyone else ever needs to know, the SD card saves all your radio and bluetooth presets as well as operates the push to talk function.

Ok, that's good. I am in the same bout as you was in. The map people told me that I will not get anything to work unless I have the original SD card, even if I bought a new updated card. Do you know what information your dealership used to order one? Was it just the serial number of the radio unit? Thank you!

The delearship will have to remove the radio unit to retrieve the serial number. Once they give that to Nissian they will send them a new SD card. once they plop it in there will be a 10-15 min update and you'll be good to go!

Do you know if it was nissan specifically or the maps people that your dealership got the SD card from? Just want to get all the details since I've been given the rum around. Thanks again in advance!

That I cannot say for 100% certainty.
what is the dealership telling you?
if there is anyone giving you the run around it would be the dealership and probably not Nissian (or even the maps department of Nissian) lol.
Did the delearship remove the radio and retrieve the serial number at least?

I went in yesterday to have the reve the unit and get the serial number, but the tech told me he could get the serial number by hooking up the computer to the car. He gave me the number and I left think that's all I needed. Before I ordered the card I decided to call the maps department to verify the serial number and make sure I was going to work. They informed me that the number the tech gave me was just the unit code of the radio. The guy on the phone then told me that no matter what number I get A new SD card will not work with the original SD card. Then I freaked out lol. So, I call back to get another rep and he told me that I need to serial number. So I've just been confused. That's when I found this post looking for answers.

I plan on going back tomorrow the get the serial number off the unit and have them order the card from the dealership.

Lol I understand.
As far as I know the ONLY way to get the correct number for a new SD card is from taking out the radio. Im sure if the delearship I went to had another way to do they would have lol. I find that the maps department can't really answer any questions outside of the guidance system! I can assure you that a new SD card from Nissian will work perfectly fine.
If you could, see if your delarship could order it for you from Nissan, unless they decide to charge you an arm and a leg!
I brought my Max used when I started the thread and requested an SD card immediately from the dealership! they didnt charge me since it was a new purcahse.

Let us know how it goes tomorrow and if there really is a way to get the serial number without removing the radio unit lol.

Everything worked out once I talked to the right person at the dealership. You just need to go to the parts department and they can order you a replacement oem SD card.

Hey Guys:
All you need for the sd card is the date your vehicle was made. Make, model, month and year. Then go to official (original) Nissan parts site and obtain part #. I was missing sd card and I found the part # the way I explained before and I was able to find one on ebay for $30.00. Everything works like a charm. I have a 2018 Max SL. And I apologize if I overstep. Thanks

So you didn't need a serial number?
That means that the SD card is married to the hardware via the part number which is specific to the make and model?

I would think the hardware and the part number are married across all makes and models and the VIN or serial number of the radio makes it SD card unique.

Nope, No SN. All I need was obviously make and model but most importantly the manufactured date. Ex. there was a part # for 09/17-05/18 and another part # for 05/18-present. and both parts were for 2018 vehicles.
So knowing the date is extremely important because those part can't be interchanged. So having the correct part # allowed me to find it on ebay and it currently works like a charm.

I want to be clear, I'm not tell anyone what to do. Just sharing my story and how it worked out for me.

There is a TSB I found out there from Nissan that will match serial number from radio to certain SD cards serial numbers. That’s what helped me. I couldn’t save radio stations or use CarPlay until I got an SD card. I did not try other cards first though, just read about it being very particular.

Funny - the new ones (2019) no longer have an SD card slot.

I bricked two navi units with bad SD cards (blank/locked?). Like "... Nissan sent to the dealer and attempted to install..."
The SD card in my 2016 Maxima was readable on a PC, but the two Nissan sent were unreadable.

Forgive my ignorance but what does TSB stand for?

Hello. I'm a new Maxima owner and the used car I bought was missing the SD card. Dealer ordered a replacement using only the VIN. Cost was $150. Installed and 10 minutes later had all of the functionality. Could not have been easier.

Maxima 2017

Hello, I just bought my Max few days ago, and obviously I didn’t check the SD card slot at the dealer before buying it. Anyway my presets wouldn’t save and my phone wouldn’t save through the Bluetooth, and I see it’s because the SD Nav is missing..... my car is going into the shop soon to get a new Fob programmed to my car and I called the sales man that sold me the car and told him already what’s been going on, he always said he was paying for the new fob that I need, mean while he said me if the SD is suppose to be with the car, from my understanding I believe all Maxima’s come factory with the SD card, if so he will have to pay for that.... my question is, does the SD card come with the vehicle is you bought it new?? Doesn’t make sense to me that it wouldn’t, but I can’t find the answer online and I don’t wanna get screwed around so I wanna know all the facts! Thank you!

Check the manual. Cite the manual. The answer is “yes” but bring proof.

It should def come with one. If you go to the dealer and sit in a new one (well they removed the SD card in the 2019 model, cause its dumb) there will be a card in it. To make it even more fun, you have to match certain numbers on your radio to a few different versions of the SD card you need. There is a bulletin out there, but I would have where ever you got it from purchase it and let them figure it out.

I was able to get one off ebay much cheaper than the dealer if it all falls through.

When I was looking at used maxes two months ago, thanks to this site, I knew to ensure the car had the SD card. I was going to buy one car but they didn't have the card so I passed on it and ended up getting a white 17 SV which I absolutely love!

The GPS is driven by the SD card - if it's missing the GPS won't work - all Maxima prior to 2019 came with one - not sure about my 2019 Plat - the slot is missing so not sure how you update the map?? CD player?? Guess I'll find out!

I bought a 2018 Nissan Maxima SL and noticed the Navigation was not working. Bluetooth setting would not save; clock time would revert to PST time every time I started the car. I noticed the SD MAP card was missing. Many features were disabled (SXM, Apple Car play etc.)

I went to the dealer and ordered a “NEW” SD MAP card using my VIN number, part number for mine was 25920-9DE0A, and they are different part numbers based on MFG date. The list print was $161 but the deal matched my on line price match $120.00

Follow this procedure with “New” card for your vehicle
  1. Ignition off – insert new MAP SD Card into the NAV slot
  2. With parking brake on start the engine
  3. The update will start you should see something like – “The audio firmware is now being updated”
  4. It will take about 15 minutes to complete ( keep car running do not turn it off)
  5. When the update completes you should see: “Update Successful, please restart the system by turning vehicle OFF and then back ON
  6. Push ignition OFF
  7. Start the engine and let the NAV unit boot

Ordering an SD card for Maxima 2017

So I have a question, I have to order an SD Nav card probably from Nissan it self... so it asked for a serial number, I looked all over the place and the only place I can find a serial number to order the SD card for the Nav is on the back of the radio.... it’s suppose to be 8 digits long, which the one I found only has 7..... also because my car doesn’t have the SD card I can’t get it off the information button off my home screen on my dash..... I would like to know if someone ordered one and had to get a serial number any other way, and what does your serial number look like? If someone could help much appreciate it, hate not having my Nav, or presets save and such

The dealer can order the correct SD map card using the vin number

Hi Max. How much more, if you don’t mind me asking. I think I paid 10 or 20 more than the online price, but that was a better option than pulling the radio for the “code”. My dealership got the part from the warehouse the next day. I was in proper functionality very quickly

ps. Sorry that I don’t have even a clue as to the answer to your exact question.

Hi guys. I just got an 18 max plat yesterday and turns out it didn't have an SD card. Turn out all you need to do is just go to your local Nissan, show them your vin, and they will give you a corresponding parts number. Mine was 259209DE0A. I ordered one from Bayridge Nissan for 160.
Gotta wait a couple of days until that arrives, anybody got a lead on how to install this thing? Can't be that hard right?

Why are these cards missing?... Who the hell pulls them out? They're useless in other cars, beyond the intrinsic value of a simple SD card as a camera storage, maybe $4-$5?... Blows my mind....

I wonder where all of these SD cards go. Same place as paper clips?
