I have seen 2017's even 2018 which already have apple play for the same price and the same miles on former rental cars sold by Hertz and Avis. They seem to have a good maintenance and most used cars out there have been rentals too but they don't tell u. Check out their websites. I bought I a 2017 VW Jetta from Avis for my daughter for 10K and 36K miles and the car looks like new. Similar models in a VW dealerships were advertised at 14K and might have been rentals or leases too...Some still have they original warranty.

I always am hesitant looking at buying rentals.. I do this every 3 years when I want a new (used) car.. I debate doing a rental and always chose not to..

Hertz only has one SL around me..

Certified Pre-Owned 2017 NissanMaxima SL Sedan $ 19,740

Thanks for the replies!

It's overprices. you can get Platinum for that kind of asking price with the same miles. SL, without even looking it up, I'm going to guess 2016 35k miles out of warranty, $16k...maybe $18k out the door with an extended warranty. With the SL you're giving up the LED headlights. I'd personally recommend that you look for a platinum.

Hell, I'd love a Platinum and if you think a 2017+ Platinum with under 40,000 miles can be had for under $20K I'll def just keep looking..

I'd be surprised if u could find a Platinum that cheap. Just did a quick search in my area and the sv trims with 30 plus thousand miles are over 20k. A rental might be cheaper, but I'd be weary of buying a former rental car

LOL - Damn you! What a roller coaster of emotions! Can, can't, do, don't.. lol

EDIT TO ADD: Yea, I don't think you can sniff a Platinum for under $22K..

Funny, because when our 2016 platinum was being turned in 4 months ago end of lease, I knew the residual, and wanted to see what they were selling for. 4 months ago platinum's were well below that residual...Can't recall the exact number but I want to say residual was $21k or 22k,, and everything I saw, some with as much as 10,000 less miles had asking prices of around $19k and less. I didn't mention the 2017 Plat, I've not looked those up or looked at bluebook either. That was all with the 2019 just around the corner. Here's the thing, asking price and selling price are 2 different things. The 2019 is a step above, so if they want to offload these 16's and 17's, they are going to have to entertain a few lowballs. So get out there and lowball. Point being, I don't really care what they are asking, that 2016 SL is not worth $19k before fees. they are at least $3000 above market with that one for the simple reason that the market is saturated with these cars coming off lease or fleet.

I appreciate the reply! I think I'm leaning towards the 2017+ now.. I have no problem low balling and do it often.. Most dealers laugh in my face but every time I shop I just don't BS with it.. I'll email the dealer usually before even setting foot in the dealership and tell them I'll offer $X cash for the car.. Most tell me to **** off and that they are a "No haggle pricing" dealer.. But I usually do find the one that will do it..

You got the right attitude, for them it's just a job, for you it's a sh!tty investment. Get the best deal you possibly can, because no matter how good it is, the car consumer is always taking a loss. Your job as a consumer is to minimize that loss.

I also don't want to be unrealistic.. I mean, I don't want to wait 6 months to get one but I also don't want to just settle..

Realistically, what would be a good deal? I guess I'm set on a 2017+ with under 40K Miles.. Would prefer an SL+ (SL, SR, or Platinum).. Really want to keep it right at $20K..

There are only 22 of them within 100 miles of me which is including the S and SV's which I don't want. The 2017 SL with only 13K miles I linked below looks nice.. I just can't see them taking $20K..

2017 SL with 13K Miles - $23,000
2018 SL with 43K Miles - $22,600
2017 SL with 38K Miles - $19,740 (*RENTAL)
2017 SL with 38K Miles - $22,200

Terrible deal. My local dealer is selling our traded in 17 Maxima Platinum with 13k on it for $24k including accessories. With 1 year left on the factory warranty. I would also stay away from buying rental car company vehicles. Never EVER buy one of those. If you are interested in our old car. It’s in Oregon.

never ever if you plan on keeping it forever i suppose. my last 5 cars were all rentals, the last 2 being maximas had no out of the ordianary issues or damage... maybe im just lucky?

i feel you on the trade though. they gave me 12.5 for my 2016 with 55k miles and ended up actually reselling it for 19k. i guess someone felt all the aftermarket parts were worth it to them, they sold it within the first week. i think the value was near 16 or 17 at the time so they overpaid alot.. should of sold it privately but was lazy... bought it in 2016 for 22,000 with 9k miles on it... man if i could of found someone dumb enough to pay 19k after having the car for nearly 3 years i would of made out like a bandit lol. never trading it again

They gave us $22,300 on the trade in. So selling at $24k is not making much. I guess you have got lucky on rentals.

I have read to many stories it scares me off.

yep, well i didnt do it again this time. i live in hawaii so maybe the rental cars arent that bad. there is only hertz for rental car sales though if that makes any difference. i put around 3000$ into the car at least in aftermarket parts knowing i would get none of it back on resale. they must of found someone who values it. I had such a difficult time sellin my old 2014 maxima before took almost 3 months thats why i decided to just trade the 2016 in and forget about it. mistake!

I would never buy a rental car. I would be a little less hesitant on a lease.....but, still not comfortable.

This is quite a distance from me (4 hours) but if he would drop some thousands (lol) it seems like a nice car.. Agreed? One owner, personal car..

Also, it sure does look black rather then blue..

If he drops a few thousands is a good car, the Platinum will bring LED lights, the all around camera, power backseat sunshade , tilting rearview mirrors, and the leather is nicer, amount other things

Really broadened my search radius.. Has anyone purchased a vehicle this far away before? I don't know if I can drive 5+ hours, but the prices are way better..

I'm thinking if I can get one of them down to $22K it may be worth the drive.. Just not sure..

I like the 5861 miles option! Could truly be like new and worth a premium over the other available Max’s on your list. I’d definitely want to know the background story of why such low miles though.

I find autotrader a lot more expensive than cargurus.com, And beware of the prices on small unknown dealers (At least in FL) you get there and they tell u that advertised prices do not reflect a 4K down payment. Shop with big reputable dealers. I went with a friend shopping once and the story was the same, u don't want to drive 5 hours and find out those prices are not true...

I agree.. I won't even bother with the smaller mom and pop's that have like 20 cars.. They have 1,138 reviews (4.4 star average) on Google..

The Carfax does show something about a lien/loan.. I've emailed and asked them about it..

This is probably all for not.. Doubt they will drop $2K and even if they did, do I really want to drive 7 hours one way to get it? Anyone ever drive that far to get a car??
