Opinion: Primacy or Premiere tires?

So. A bit lengthy, but I’d like you guys to weigh in. I’d appreciate it.

In the market for some new tires for our 2017 SL. Discount Tire has the Primacy MXM4 for 184.00 a tire and DT and Costco have the Premier for around $250 a tire. Costco is running a $149 off sale on a set. Prices overall come out cheaper if I ran the Primacy at DT than the Premier at either. BUT I’m reading that the Primacy is discontinued and replaced with the Premier.

Doesn’t make the Primacy a bad tire though. But if something happens I may not be able to get another tire, or run into an issue of mismatched tires. Should I save many and go with a really good, yet older model. Or spend the cash and get the newer Premiere.

Also, for clarity I am in the PNW from ATL, so rain and snow would factor in. I’ve had the Premier on my GMC and they were excellent. Didn’t have this choice issue then. I can’t afford or house a second set of tires so, pure winter tires aren’t an option. I would get cables if need be. Also considering the Pilot Sport A/S 3 Plus. Which is 192.00 vs the 182.00 of the Primacy. Any advice, insight or suggestions are appreciated.

I’m guessing that you didn’t see that I replied multiple times in that same thread? But there wasn’t any talk of the two tires I’ve mentioned here. Only a few responses with the Pilot’s who upgraded to the Premiere. NONE of the Primacy. And others who got different brands. The Pilots are more of a foot note, hence why they’re at the very end. 99% of my post is referencing the Primacy vs Premier. But yeah....Thanks

Now that I’m looking at it. I replied to YOU on that thread. Im basically asking for a comparison to of the Primacy vs Premier. Let me know if you have any info on that. I get that Michelin’s in general don’t last long. Now I’m just tryna trying to find the lesser of two evils.

I had Primacy on a Honda Accord, and then on a Nissan Altima, and liked them on both cars. I got 40K treadlife on both cars. I would buy them again.

I had Primacy (runflat) on my 2014 BMW 5-series. It was light-years better than the Goodyear Excellence garbage that came on the 2011 model (same car).
Not sure I'd buy them aftermarket since they were true OEM/fit-to-the-wheel, but had decent rim protection and weathered some gnarly potholes that bubbled the Goodyears.

I have been running premiers for the the last 180,000 on my 7th gen. It is not as good as the MXV4s it replaced and the tread depth is down from 11 to 8.5/32s I think it makes more road noise than the MXV4s (not MXM4s) it replaced. I only get about 90,000 on these vs 110,000 on the MXV4s. So while I cant say it is better than the primacy, at least it is running on an albeit older 7th gen and is a good tire. Not great, but good. To tell the truth, I am thinking of the Primacy myself for the next time.

Finally a "hit" from LtLeary! When judging tire performance always best to use similar or identical cars. Performance may vary greatly depending on Make, model, etc.

I went with the Premier A/S. I'm liking them so far (only about 600 miles).

I should’ve made mention. It’s the same vehicle. The OEM’s were Continental. Ended up going with the Premiere as I had them on my GMC and they did really well. The Primacy were $184 a tire. But being that they’re discontinued made me a bit wary. Getting them installed today actually. We’ll see how it goes.
