Rattling noise 2017 Nissan Maxima

Rattling is only located on drivers side, seems to be in windshield area so either under the hood or something in the dash. Only happens when accelerated to 50+, Only happen when it is against any wind. Does NOT do it at idle or stopping. Has anyone had this problem? It. Is. Driving. Me. Insane.

Damn that sounds loud and crazy annoying. It just randomly developed?

Did anything fall into the vent there or the speaker grill?

My long shot guess is maybe the A pillar trim piece, but probably not? I've had to get my windshield replaced a few times due to rocks and that trim piece is finicky and can come loose easily, like yours, at high speed I can hear the trim piece moving sometimes though its nowhere as loud or rapid as yours.

Hope others have some better suggestions

While going "into the wind" is a strong hint that your noise is coming from outside the vehicle. I hear your noise on your video, but on my computer it sounds like a stick dragging on the ground, but we know that's not it. My hunch is the noise is coming from outside, down in the channel where the plastic outside fresh air vent resides. There is a similar piece on a C6 Vette. The reason I mention the Vette is that I had a similar noise that I could have sworn was coming from inside the windscreen where it meets the dashboard. Quite by accident, I realized that the noise was only present at interstate speeds and ONLY WHEN I WAS DRIVING INTO THE WIND. What was happening was a strong air stream over the top of the plastic fresh air vent piece would cause a low-pressure area over that piece causing it to act like a harmonica if you know what I mean. To test my theory a duct-taped that piece of plastic and took her out for a drive. Problem was solved!! If I were you here is what I would do. Take a rag and stuff it down into the area just behind the hood, on the driver's side. To help hold it in place using some duct tape. Then take it for an interstate drive INTO THE WIND. If the noise stops or is significantly reduced, then you are close to solving your problem. Sorry for the long-winded post but I know you are very aggravated agout this (I would be too), so I'm taking a long shot. Good luck with your diagnosis.

I had a rattle in my '17 Maxima that was driving me nuts. It, too, was speed and wind direction related. Found the issue being a slightly loose fit on the trim that is located below the doors. I put some small pieces of pool noodles tn the area to put some pressure on it, and no more rattles. This may not be the problem with your vehicle, but maybe someone else has the same problem. Remember, if it looks silly, but it works, it isn't silly.

HI, I'm having the same issue with my 2019 Nissan Maxima SL. Rattling noise coming from the dash. Same noise from your video. Were you able to locate the problem or fix it?

Rattle fix

Not sure if it is the same rattle I had, but it sure sounds like it is. Comes from the sides of the car and only at highway speeds. It was a muffled rattle so I suspected it was coming from outside the car. I discovered that it was the exactly the same location as discovered by 2young2retire above and one of his posts pointed me to the source of the rattle. He fixed his with foam pieces but I fixed mine by removing the three plastic button retainers that hold it in place underneath and along the sides one at a time and then sliding on two nylon washers from a local hardware store over the plastic button retainers to take up the slack. Before this fix, I could move the trim piece with my hands and it was loose. After the fix, it was nice and snug. As you may know, these plastic retainers can be removed with something like a screwdriver. I broke one of mine and had to replace it from pieces found at my local auto parts store. I used nylon washers but you could use poly or other synthetic materials as well. I believe I used a 3/8" size washer. My passenger's side was the worst but I ended up doing my driver's side as well as it would rattle at high speeds with a cross-wind coming from the right direction.

Picture credit to 2young2retire -- all I did was add arrows to point to the exact trim piece that rattles.

I have the same noise. I found a Rubber seal between my door and Driver front fender that seemed a bit loose. I put some cardboard behind the loose section today and I did not hear that noise once all the way home from work on my 30-minute ride. I sure hope the solves my problem because I agree it was driving me nuts

Check to see if it isn't the plastic cowl between the hood and windshield. Sometimes those things shrink and make a racket at speed, and yes, into the wind. Why into the wind? Because that increases air speed over the hood, creating more low pressure over that plastic cowl piece, causing it to make a racket, vibrating. This is just a hunch because I own a C6 Corvette, and this cowl vibration at speed and into the wind (not with the wind) is a common problem. Check it out. You might sleep better.
