SOS Runaround?
SOS Runaround?
I have a 2017 Maxima and the audio (phone and radio) cuts out every 2 minutes for 5 seconds. Took it to the dealer October 2020 and was told my audio unit needed to be replaced. They replaced it under warranty. Picked it up and radio was still cutting out so the manually diagnose. I’m told it’s a part with the SOS button (not audio system at all). They say they will order the part so I wait. In November part still not in so I call and am told it’s on back order. I call in January and am told the telematics company that makes the SOS part got hacked so they had to temporarily stop distribution and my issue can’t be fixed right now. I am also told the new audio unit they put in my car in October (for free and for no reason) is the wrong unit so I need to bring my car back so they can remove and replace with another audio unit. I’m beginning to feel like something is off with all of this. Thoughts please.
The good news is that the dealer recognizes the problem but the bad news is as you describe. To my knowledge, this is an isolated issue. Is there any way to just disconnect the SOS module or is it an integrated part of the radio? Like you I am wondering how the "wrong radio" made the replacement list. Is yours the upscale Bose unit?
So I would get the latest replacement radio and request a disconnect of the SOS function till the vetted part gets to the dealer. Can't help but think the dealer can do the SOS part via software.
Good luck.
