P1058 Code
P1058 Code
Close to home the other day in my 2017 and the Check Engine light went on. The next day and since then the light has not re-appeared. Hooked it up to a scanner and got air code p1058 with the message "O2 sensor Circuit High Voltage Bank 2 Sensor 2". It indicated that the code has been saved in the cars computer. Wondering if this is a one off, or a cause of concern that their is an issue with the sensor past the cat. or the wiring?

Here is some information and troubleshooting on that code.

I only have 44,000 miles, so it is within warranty, but my dealership is 2 hours away. The check engine light came on a few miles from home and has not come on since, having taken 5-6 trips in the last 4 days since. The interesting thing is I was climbing a hill that had a large patch of ice and I was on the gas hard. As I hit the ice the tires lost traction and started to spin. So as not to damage the transmission when the tires hit blacktop again I got off the gas as soon as the tires began spinning. So I am not sure if this contributed to the P1058 code or not.
I will obviously watch it like a hawk, as I was wondering if anyone else has experienced the check engine light coming on for code P1058 and then not again.
I phoned my dealer the day it happened, not knowing the O2 sensor was involved yet and they indicated that I would be charged an hour shop time to diagnose the problem. I would assume that as soon as the P1058 code came up that shop time would be covered under warranty...anybody know?

if your car is over 36K miles you are out of the bumper to bumper warranty, i'm not sure if powertrain warranty would cover diagnostics of codes or sensors that need to be replaced. If the light has not come back again just leave it alone or buy one of those code readers that you can buy for $30, clear it and see if it comes back. you can also do it for free in an autozone. An hour shop cost could be over $100...and most likely they will tell you that is not covered by the powertrain warranty and that you need to change a bunch of stuff..Maybe it was only a isolated voltage drop due to the temperature and the check light went on..
If you are in the US, the Emissions warranty should cover this under the 5 year 60,000 mile provisions. Check your books to be sure. It does seem premature for the O2 sensor to go, but that could be brought on by some crappy fuel .
In Canada it is covered by same 5 year 60,000 mile provisions as in the US.
