How about now along with the filter? Every 30K seems reasonable to me.

What does you maintenance manual suggest? My guess is the manual will suggest it should be changed at 60,000 miles (96,000 Km).

The manual is oddly vague about CVT fluid which is arguably the critical weakspot of this car. It only says to inspect every 10k miles and then ONLY replace at 60k if you tow (lol) or drive on rough/dirt roads.

OP, I'd do it every 30k miles. That's what tons of people online has recommended for their Maximas and also what my dealer recommends.

Every 30-60k miles if you want it to last a long time.

I have 103K miles, changed it @60K miles, that's what my dealer recommended. He told me not to bother until 120K miles. So I'm going with that. So far, so good.

CVT oil is always the weakest point of all car equipped with CVT. It was the mistake of bmw-mini brand at the first gen. CVT oil must be changed every 80.000km.

my maxima is around 170.000km and has been changed twice. Even the engine oil. Recommendation is 8.000km but I always change around 5000.

(2018 8th Gen) Does anybody know how much CVT fluid will come out if I pull the drain plug? I'm going to do a drain and refill at 30k then let the dealer do it at 60k.

I have a 2010 Maxima, I change the fluid every 50k miles. Even though the manual recommends 100k miles. I'm currently at 172k miles and my CVT has no issues. Note: Don't forget about your CVT filter as well. I change mine every 2nd fluid change.

What's a typical cost for replacing the CVT transmission fluid? Is it expensive?

Not really. Got it done at a dealership nearby, bill says it was $170.

Thanks. I think I'm at 30000km so I'll wait a bit longer. That's not a bad price but it'll probably be three times that cost up here in Canada!

I called a few dealers here (sf bay nor-cal) and I’m getting quotes from $250-$399.

I asked the dealer with the $250 quote if he drops the pan and replaces the filter. He said no, that the maxima doesn’t have a filter. I wasn’t about to get into it, he was very convinced.

I’m just going to do it myself, seems simple enough with the oil overflow bolt and the instructions in this forum.

I wouldn’t mind saving a few bucks and using another oil. I’m way out of warranty. Anyone use Aisin NS-3 oil?

When you change your filter, do you mean the one mounted outside, or the one inside the drain pan? And how much oil do you change at a time? So far I'm only changing one quart every few months

Id do both to be sure. Take changes with a fluid evacuator to get more fluid or changes about 3 X to get most of the fluid replaced

Would you have a part number for the interior filter? I work at advance Auto, and it seems we only sell the filter that's outside, which I changed now at 100k.

Someone has posted the internal filter part number on this site. In my view the external filter is most important and you have done this. Not sure why the dealers are afraid to offer this filter change out.

186k on 2010 Maxima

Hi. I’ve had my 7th gen since at 135k miles, going onto 186. I noticed a whining noise, especially at cold start. Obd2 scanner shows a code for low transmission pressure fluid. Sad hound I just too it off or do a whole drain and refill? If I did the whole drain and refill, should I do the oil pan, replace the pan gasket, and change it the external filter too? Any response would help please? Thank You.

ps- previous order had transmission replaced once already, not sure it it were brand new or rebuilt, and don’t know at which miles it was replaced

Change external filter and drain pan for starters. Evaluate the external filter for metal shavings.

Ok, I’ll do that. Also, Is this the exact type of fluid I’m suppose to be using for the 7th gen? I’m not sure if all Nissan ns-2 are the same. I’ve attached a
Is this the correct ns-2 for a 2020 maxima sv?

There is only one NS-2 CVT fluid. It is used in all Maxima from 2009 thru 2014 (7th generation).
You have the correct fluid.

Ok, thank god.. Just got 6qts for $111 total off Amazon now instead of having to spend around $170 at my local Nissan. Thank you!

Is an oil change needed ?

I bought my 2010 max s at about 155k my car wasn’t making any noise , I’m at about 165-167k and it’s making this rattling noise plus when I park my car it rolls forward a bit more than needed . Would anyone know if these are signs of oil change ? ( I’m sorry I’m a woman ) lol

I’ve done lots of research, drain/fill and replace outside filter Is the best option. 30-40k intervals Is recommended. When you park, before you let off the brake, use your parking brake and turn the wheels to either side a little to prevent the car from “rolling”. Only use OEM fluid don’t be cheap on any sorts of oils.
