Rear seat measurement

Nissan is not giving its maxima credit. They state rear legroom around 34 inches. They must be measuring with the front seat all the way back. I am five feet ten inches tall and I have set the drivers seat to my comfortable position. I come up with 38 inches of rear legroom. This is much more competitive than what Nissan states. A lot of people are looking away from the maxima because of perceived tight rear seats. Any body have a take on this?

God I hope I don't wake up in the middle of the night thinking about perceived tight rear seats.

Lol 😆 You are right. I am just tired of reading "experts " writing about tight, cramped and smallish rear seats. They are fine to me.

I am no expert, l measured from the rear seat back to the front edge 19 inches. I then measured down to the floor 12 inches. Finally I measured from that spot to the outer edge of the floor mat. 10 inches.. I came up with 41 inches total. That seemed too much. I sat behind my drivers seat and had a good amount of room. My old grand prix was said to have 36 inches. I find a lot more room in the max.

honest measurements

I believe Nissan measures their seats honestly, that is to say with the front seats all the way back when they measure both front and back. Other manufacturers don't do this. Ford, for example, seems to measure front with the seat all the way back, then pull the front seat forward to a middle position before measuring the back. This of course gives a misleading impression of how much back seat legroom there is. I agree that the Maxima has better legroom than the 34 2 implies.

I also don't understand how sites like Edmunds can slam the max for inadequate trunk space at 14+ cf and then say another car has good trunk space at the same or smaller measurements.

Rear seat measurements

I agree Nissan is honest with its measurements. Edmunds should not take the measurements on paper alone. If you adjust the front seat to your comfortable position, then sit behind yourself you will find how spacious or not the rear seat is. In my experience the max has a good amount of trunk space.
