Gas filler lid

ok, so after getting pictures of a 2016 to compare it to, doesn’t look like that part is broken.
I am hoping someone smarter than me and the service dept at Nissan can help on a direction of the lid issue I have and still don’t know how it happened.
the lid Is misaligned but I can’t see why or how.

please help if you gave any ideas.
‘my son thinks I need to bring to body shop.

pics attached .

thanks for help
Kevin

Looks like something punched in the hinge point and bent the part that the door swings on.

Maybe someone opened their car door super hard at just the right spot on the left side of the gas door

This is going to take some skillful bending to get that right.....

After reading the post and hearing that it might not be mechanical issue I looked at where it was
rubbkng and actually got it bent back into location.
doesn’t look perfect but can’t tell and the door will open and close now!!
thank you all

Thanks for reporting back. I wonder just how that is adjusted? Thru the trunk? Glad you figured it out.

i used to work in a garage that had a body shop.
in my opinion it is a simple manner of bending the hinge and should be done while installed in the car.
an honest body man would have it done in a matter of minutes.
if you go to a body shop and they give you a song and dance about all kinds of technical things that they would have to do RUN LIKE CRAZY to the next shop.
if I lived close to you I would do it for you.
good luck!

its a very ez fix,i just wish all my body jobs were this ez to do
shut your gas lid and get a thin hard piece of plastic like wedge and insert it in at the thin part of the gas lid and pry to the opposite side or more easily to do is get a very thin piece of rubber and insert in the closest part of the lid and pry to the opposite side with a flat tip screwdriver,do this in incrementing force,ez to harder
the rubber is to protect your paint
pry once, then look at it,,,you may need to move your prying position but always pry to the opposite side .
you can do it
