This happened yesterday. Fortunately it was at low speed on an empty road. Could have been deadly at high speed or in traffic.
There was a notice from Nissan and warranty extension to cover replacement of this lower rear control arm defect. However my dealership did not spot the problem, nor mention the notice when putting my summer tires on last week.
Strongly suggest everyone examine their rear suspension and/or contact the dealership. YIKES!
Wow, Can you give us more details on how old is the car? Miles traveled, location? Thanks!
2016 Maxima Platinum, ~73,000 miles. Northern Michigan.
Underbody was in otherwise good shape. Extensive corrosion on the part in question lead to a break, under routine driving. Right side part had similar corrosion.
I absolutely love this vehicle and am glad Nissan and the dealer covered all expenses to replace both rear lower control arms.
However I am very surprised they have not categorized this as a safety recall. That break at high speed could lead to catastrophic loss of control.
Wait a minute, there was a notice on this? I just brought my 2016 Maxima with only 52k miles in for an alignment and they "discovered " a broken control arm too!! Gave it back to us and said we need to replace the tires first. Purchased 4 new tires and dropped it off on Saturday (a week later). I'm so getting rid of this car!

See the link at the bottom of my post. Nissan is retroactively covering the cost of repairs.
You can click into a form from the notice.
Thanks for the info, I didn't realize there was a warranty extension on this issue. Will have to keep an eye on this, although my car doesn't get driven in winter conditions very often you never know.
This exact control break just happened to my 2016 Maxima this morning, I am really glad it happened just backing out of my driveway and not while driving in the city or on the highway.

Just an FYI; Nissan replaced both rear control arms on my car under the extended warranty they issued on this, no charge to me. I have no idea why they would not issue recalls on this!!

Thanks for the update on a very serious issue. Would oversized tires contribute to this if they were installed?

I am not sure about oversized tires, my Maxima is 100% stock, I havent done any changes. I spend my "play" money on my other hobbies, my motorcycle and my sim-racing rig.
Adding this for documentation purposes so others see it. The control arm broke yesterday on my 2016 Maxima SV. I was going along around 35mph and thought I suddenly had a flat tire. I have 78,000 miles on the car. If this was on the freeway, could've been deadly.

Wow! My issue happened on a Saturday, and it was fixed that Monday by 11am. No charge either because it was under the TSB. All is well again.

I just had this exact thing happen Wed morning on 70 E heading to work in Hilliard at around 75 to 80. Almost lost the car but managed to get it off the road safely. Buckeye Nissan is picking it up today and told me i should have it back either tomorrow or Monday at the latest, All for free under the Ext warranty.
This happened to me last night on I-75 in Toledo (2016 Nissan Maxima). I was traveling back from a baby shower with my daughter, my sister, and my neice. We were going 80MPH and it pulled strong to the left then jumped into the right lane. Thankfully there was not another car there. We pulled off at the next exit and had it towed to a dealer. Today the dealer is fixing it "for free" due to extended warranty. For context, we live in Michigan, about 2 1/2 hours away from the dealer. I cannot understand why this is not a recall. We are very shaken up and it could have been catastrophic.
