The fuel filter on the 2017 maxima is located under the car. Do a YouTube video search as you have to pull the 15amp fuel pump fuse to relieve the fuel pressure from the pump or you'll have fuel spray everywhere when you remove the hose. I guess I should replace mine too, I have almost 182k miles on my 2010 and haven't done it once.

I have been told the only fuel filter is in part of the fuel pump assembly. Does anyone know for sure?

Based on the service manual, it looks like the fuel level sensor unit, fuel filter and fuel pump assembly are all one unit that resides in the gas tank, so I'd guess the filter isn't a maintenance item.

P/N is 17040-4RA0C (Courtesy Parts: link)

Thanks for this important info. I do wish there was a separate serviceable filter but I have also not heard of many fuel pump assemblies being replaced either.

My 99 Maxima had a replaceable fuel filter under the hood, but my newer cars seemed to have moved away from that. It was possible to change the fuel filter on my old 2004 Honda Pilot, but that involved removing the rear seats to get at the access panel for it. I never replaced it in 17 years of ownership without an issue, so it's not something I'd worry about unless I got a bad tank of gas with some debris in it.
