'97-'99 LED Tail Light Prototypes!
The prototypes are assembled! Here are pictures of the inners on 12v:
Running Light
Brake Light
Running Light and Reverse Option
I am really happy with the way they turned out, however I am not sure about the "cool white" color of the reverse light (blue tint). I am considering using a "warm white" (yellow tint). I would love to hear some opinions. The pictures aren't great because 1) it's hard to take pictures of light, and 2) it's a cheap camera.

Nice prototype. I am still a huge fan of the Kevlo LED's as they look like they came from the factory with LED's. If you prototype some of those designs (only the upper tails with like 4-5 rows evenly spaced and varying length) I might be interested.

+1. any Ideas on price range? Hope you do well since every other time when they were available no one wanted to fork up the money. Patiently waiting on a finished product.

this is what he said when i asked about price a month ago:
"hopefully i'll be ready in a month or two. i honestly have no idea how much they are going to cost. i'm just designing them and then i'm going to send that to the manufacturer for a prototype. if those are good i will get a quantity quote. for reference the guy who used to make them charged $300 and was said to be making $100 profit. mine will almost definately cost more than his to make (i think he hand made his boards and mine have a LOT more leds) but i will probably look for less profit % wise since mine won't be as labor intensive."
so expect like 400+

same here, make the turn signals amber, or orange, and if you wanna keep the blue, make the blue/white the reverse

The stepping effect makes them look a bit odd, maybe even more so once there in the housings and each lens is next to each other. Nice even rows would make them look so much cleaner.
BLACKonBLACK98,
Did you included a seperate pot switch for each board?
Those reverse lights are super bright, would be nice if you could dim them down a bit so you dont blind everyone behind you.

great news for you guys that want only the running/brake lights and want to retro-fit them yourselves. i haven't crunched all the numbers yet (still waiting on a couple things) but it looks like these will be in the $300-350 range. the reverse and turn signal options will cost extra, as will the complete units in oem housings.

Agreed, these look really nice but not really feeling how the rows arent even at the ends.

i am having a voltage regulator/pwm circuit designed where all 10 boards will run through 1 unit. everything will be regulated to 12v and the running lights will be adjustable through one potentiometer.
the reverse lights are bright, but not as bright as they appear. there are no white superflux led so i used a 5 chip led from hong kong. they have a wider viewing angle than the superflux so it was like looking straight on with the (cheap) camera.

Thank you. I will be assemling a driver side complete over the next week or so. After that there will be around a 2 week down time while I wait on production parts/supplies, After that the running brake/lights should be available for sale. I would like to know how many people are interested in the reverse light option.

Im curious to see how they look in the housings behind the lenses.

within the next week. i am waiting on some used lights to arrive (didn't want to buy new ones for a prototype). i am also interested to see how they will look behind the lense. i am hoping to get a nice glow without losing the little seperation i have. we'll see...

im interested in just the brake/running light already assembled, ball park figure on that. i do not need the reverse/turn signal led light.

the kit will probably be $300-350. the cost for an assembled set could vary a lot depending on what tails are used. eg a brand new oem set vs. used oem set vs. a new aftermarket set.

I am waiting on a couple tools and supplies. I should have pics of a prototype in the housing early/mid next week. After that there will be some time spent aquiring/assembling the production boards and the power supply parts that I am having designed for the kit. I have decided against taking pre-orders, but will run a special on the first few sets. I would say release is 1-2 months away.

wow! I'm so pumped for these! I'll definately be getting a set... I love the bright "super-white" look of the reverse lights....I'll probably be driving in reverse more often with these!

i got everything i thought i needed, but it is going to take some extra work to get them to sit right in the housing. the reflector thats built in the lens also breaks the light in a wierd way, so depending on how they sit i might have to do some redesigning. once i get them placed in the housing correctly i will post pics and get y'all's opinion. not the day i was hoping for...
