Question about rebuilding Z calipers:

Hey brake rebuild gurus,

I just replaced the rubber gaskets from the pistons in my '91 300zx 2+2 calipers today (30mm aluminum)

When I removed the original old gaskets, there was 1 metal circle clip and 1 rubber gasket in each piston.

Now in the rebuild kit i bought, it contained 4 pieces of rubber rings along with the replacement rubber gaskets...

My question is - were the rubber rings supposed to be used? Or did i just need to replace the gasket?

The kit was for 240z all the way to 300zx...

Thanks for the imput guys!

are you talking about the seals that are down inside the cylinder? They have kind of a square profile...Once you pull the pistons completely out, you will see where they go.

two ways to do it:

1. but a wood block between them and use compressed air into the brake like opening to "blow" them out

2. I used a plumbers wrench and just twisted them back and forth while pulling out...was fairly easy. took about 5 minutes per piston.
