Need to pull/press in new wheel bearing.

I wasn't sure where to put this but I figured some of our more suspension gurus would have some spindle experience.

Basically what I want to do is drop the control arm and spindle as one, so I don't have to seperate the lower ball joint (pretty new). I am just wondering if it would be much of a problem for a machine shop to pull/press in the bearing with the control arm attatched to the spindle.

Thanks for any help.

Gonna be very clumsy to work it like that, if at all possible. Chances are the control arm is going to be hanging somehow when the spindle is on the press anyway. Take off the castle nut and disconnect it from the ball joint, it will make things easier.

Its already a hard enough shape to work with, the LCA will only make it worse. Since the BJ is new you should have no problem knocking it loose by hitting the knuckle with a hammer.

Keep the nut on the balljoint (not tightened down obviously) and just bang it with a hammer, it will come out with no worry of tearing up the boot. There's no way they're gonna press the wheel bearing out/in with the control arm still attached, and you're making way more work for yourself too. Reinstalling control arms is a ***** if you're by yourself.

I've seen a wheel bearing replaced with the spindle attached to the car in 45 minutes.

It was done on my car. No press was used. Know how it was done???

All he did was disconnect the strut mount from the LCA via the ball joint. Then disconnected the axle from the spindle. The rest was pretty easy. Hammer out the old parts and hammer in the new bearing. Once the new bearing was in he just used an impact wrench to "press" the hub into the bearing.

I'm suprised that's holding up sounds kind of like a sketchy way to put in a bearing.

Update: Stopped being a little girl and dropped the spindle, it was no big deal took maybe 45 mins. Swapped in my new bearing and seals as well as "new" hub (mine was worn causing the play) at a local machine shop.

I actually did leave (it was fux0red) the ABS sensor on the spindle and took the line from the engine bay out with it.

Dropping the two (CA and spindle) would have been retarded.
